How Do YOU Like Me Now? Porsche Exclusive Shows Off A 911 Targa Like You Haven't Seen Before
I have to admit, when the Porsche 911 Targa was reissued with its vintage-looking top, I wasn't sure if it would be a sales hit or a sales dud. Turns out it's doing OK.

With the release of the 991.2 Targa 4 GTS it seems that Porsche's Exclusive team decided to have a bit of fun.

In recent months Porsche's been showing us just what it's capable of should you have the dough to back it up. This is another one of those cases.

Seen in Miami Blue and with some minor changes only a real Porschephile will catch, this 991.2 Targa is quite the sight. Here's what I spot:

- Blacked out Targa "roll bar"
- Darkened mirror caps — painted black or carbon fiber, I cannot tell
- Carbon fiber interior trim
- Carbon fiber illuminated door sills
- Two-tone interior
- Alcantara headlliner

No, I can't spot the differences. This is sort of like Harley-Davidson making a big deal out of a new shaped chrome air intake filter as a big change for the new year.

The 911 does not get sweeping changes year to year. I'm okay with that. I'd like to own a Carrera 4 because of what it is; not because it's new and improved and (cosmetically) redesigned for the new year.

The 911 doesn't really have to do anything to sell. It is the only car of its kind. This is money waiting to be claimed.

Matt I imagine you've driven many, but I've only driven a few. The 911 is truly a very special car and like no other. Fabulous to drive, to sit in, and to the touch with its quality materials. An icon worthy of its reputation. Make mine the 911 4S Targa.

The 911 is a fantastic car, but it's most decidedly NOT my cup of tea. I prefer my GT350. A Porsche dealer will never have a problem selling a 911.

Amazing how Porsche designers keep making the 911 variants more and more appealing and lovely.

It really doesn't take much effort with the fan base. Change a color. Reshape a spoiler. Tack on $20K. LOL

FWIW, I've never been a Porsche fan. Especially the 911. I've always lusted for a Ferrari (360 Modena, F430 spyder) or a Lamborghini (think Gallardo days) or a McLaren (12C spyder).

Today, I look around, and of all that's being made that's even remotely affordable (if you can call a $250,000 car "affordable"), the 911 and 718 are some of the only visually appealing forms for me. Yeah, there are gorgeous cars like Koenigsegg's creations, but in the multi-million dollar range, they're clearly not for us mere mortals.

If I had to buy a sports car today, it would be a 911 Carrera 4 convertible.

Announcing the new 911 Targa which looks a lot like the old 911 Targa.

Unfortunately Porsche only equips the Boxster/Cayman with
the turbo four. If you are tone deaf it is great as you get
better performance with supposedly better fuel economy. However
the four sounds like crap. So you either have to spring for a 911 or
buy a Lotus Evora 400 if you want a decent six cylinder sound. Too
bad as the N/A flat six in the Boxster/Cayman was the best noise around..

mini22: Your "sounds like crap" complaint is not the first to be voiced, yet there are loads of YouTube videos of the 817, and they sound pretty good. Granted, I prefer a V8 sound even more, but I would not call the 718's sound "crap." Not my a long shot.

By the way, the BMW i8 has a 1.5L inline 3-cyl engine. For some reason, people (including reviewers) don't make a big deal of that engine sound, perhaps because BMW pipes in synthesized "big engine" noise into the occupant cell. Outside, it doesn't remotely sound like what we're used to, especially for a sports car.

Typo: "...YouTube videos of the 817..." --> "...YouTube videos of the 718..."
