EPA Says All-Electric 2017 VW e-Golf Has 125-Mile Range And Returns 126mpg-e
After its 2016 LA Auto Show debut, the Volkswagen e-Golf is now ready to hit US showrooms.

Scheduled to arrive with local dealers this spring, with prices to be announced close to that date, the electric version of the compact car has an EPA-estimated 126/111/119 mpg-e in city/highway/combined. VW said that "using 13 cents per kilowatt-hour, the EPA has estimated an annual fuel cost of just $550".

125 miles is just on the Fringe of being enough range to allow most drivers to feel "safe" - I believe 150-200 miles is more likely needed.

That plus the continued low gas prices- AND - the likely loss of the $7500 tax credit due to the Trump Administration cutting the EPA - and I believe virtually ALL Evs are dead in the water compared to regular car sales. Yes - Tesla does sell cars - but nothing in comparison to the rest of the market.

Yes, this would be the bare minimum I would accept, but would prefer closer to 200. My typical driving day is around 50 miles, but it gets cold in the winter and warm in the summer, so HVAC is going to eat into that range noticeably.

Cool! Hope they start selling it in every state. Will have to fend off the Bolt EV though and just the looks and the German fit/finish may not be enough.

VW + electric? What could go wrong?

Not as much apparently. Two years later the e-Golf and e-Up! in Europe seem to be doing well.

126 miles would be enough for a large majority of drivers. Although, most people will consider it too limited. If people will take a look at their driving behaviour, I'm pretty sure that their average daily drive is well within the 126 mile AER.
2 things to take into consideration: 1) EV's don't require the typical maintenance that ICE cars need. 2) city charging stations are now more common and more are being installed.
