Toyota sales jump 88% in China!

Wow, and we've been hearing from posters for months on Autospies about what a failure Toyota is in China.

i think percentage comparisons are a bit misleading, especially when your initial sales figures are lower. so if VW's sales increased by 29%, it means that prior sales were 406,657 units [i.e. increase of 118,000 units]. Toyota, increased an astonishing 88% but actual units only increased 95,000 - from 107,978 to 203,000]. While significant - the actual growth still lags behind VW.

Not attacking specifically snatch - but to the others, So will you guys point out the same thing. Why is it that Toyota's accomplishments are never good enough, while a Miniscule achievement by your favorite German brands is like an act of god???

Like he said, VW made a bigger improvement than Toyota. Percentage doesn't make a difference if the actual amount they improved was smaller.

Besides, I see no reason to buy a Toyota over a VW, or a Honda, for that matter. Especially a Honda.

The GTI is the best hot hatch for under $20K on the market, the Passat is the most upscale and sporty car in its class, the Touareg is a very luxurious alternative to cars such as the RX350 or FX35 (my wife has an RX, and I actually think the Touareg is better executed on the inside), and the Phaeton was underestimated. It offered more luxury than the previous-gen S-Class at a fraction of the cost, and sometimes it's not bad to look anonymous. I kind of liked the Phaeton's Euro-plain looks.

The only VW I wouldn't buy over the competition is a normal Jetta 2.5.

Judging by its looks, it looks overweight and underpowered.

The GLI is a completely different matter.

Second the Comment on the Phaeton.

Golf GTI or R32 (Both Fully Loaded) are better options than similarly priced vehicles from the competition.

I personally think that the Phaeton was a bad choice for VW sell since this question arises: why not just get the A8? Especially since the A8 looks better.

I don't disagree- the A8 was a better, smarter choice.

But the Phaeton was not a bad car at all, like some people have said. It was just a flop, a stupid move.

are you nuts? of course percentages mean something! they mean much more than brut numbers! the thing with increases or decreases in quantity is always measured as a percentage because it is this, and only this, that is significant. how much did it improve, not how much more units are being sold. its about strides, steps, growth, not number of units.

percentage increases (or decreases) are a good measure of MOMENTUM.

having a "big mo" is a good indicator of being on a roll. go toyota!
