2018 Toyota Camry - for Yesterday, for Today, for Tommorow
The Camry is the best-selling passenger car in the US by a rather big margin. Ever since 2011 sales increased each year until 2015 when it peaked at nearly 430,000 cars a year. In 2016 it sold slightly less due to the trend of buying crossovers instead of sedans. However, Toyota is not phased by this trend. Not that long ago they released the brand new 2018 Toyota Camry which is not just a mild facelift like some said.

In fact, the new Camry is a brand new vehicle based on Toyota’s newest modular architecture. It shares this chassis with the new Prius as well as the upcoming RAV4. Unlike the older car which had to be confined by the size of its platform, thanks to the modular design of the TNGA, the new Camry is larger and has considerably nicer proportions than before.

Looks like a Honda Accord with an ugly front and rear end.

What this show is that a large segment of the car buying public buys cars for getting from one place to another "safely and reliably", and they really don't care about looks or performance. Noting that cars in the USA already have higher performance than most cars in other areas of the world - that is true over there too. Just as a loyal group continued to buy Mini-vans even when they were out of "fashion" because of their superior ability to carry people/things - even though they were hardly stylish - while STYLING can sell a car sometimes - utility is a major factor in the purchase decisions.

The picture above is what is going to be produced - we already have Toyota releases.

Just as good looking as any other German or American sedan, just not for those that favor brand identity.

The Camry has been seen as "boring" since the 80's, but that's only because they made so many of them. The classic styling it was known for abruptly ended in 2012, when the "full bush" models came out. I say this because the front end looks like a woman's full, unshaved bush. Especially in black. The louvers on the Lexus are not quite as ugly but still bad. Now it appears to be morphing into something that's even uglier, if that's possible. This whole era just has some really ghastly cars, angular cheap plastic. The formation of creases just because it's been easier to manufacture creases lately, so let's do it. Very busy looking, and cheap. None of it will date well.

I hope one day, auto-makers go back to classic, clean styles. Think early 90's 4-Runner.
