Trump Tells Automakers To "Build More Plants"

Trump Tells Automakers To
President Donald Trump pushed domestic and foreign auto executives for more U.S. jobs and new manufacturing plants here Wednesday, even as auto sales appear to be receding from record levels in 2016.

During a roundtable with industry officials, Trump mentioned General Motors Co.’s Wednesday announcement that it will add or retain 900 jobs in Michigan. “That’s going to be peanuts to the numbers that we’re going to see in the near future,” he said.

Trump repeatedly stressed to the CEOs and senior leaders of 11 automakers, three suppliers and United Auto Workers President Dennis Williams that he wants to see automakers “build new plants in Michigan and other states.” He said that’s going to bring “thousands of jobs.”

what a Charlatan. Corporations go where it is best for them. They are not in the business of employing people, they are in the business of making money for their shareholders. Besides within 10 years most auto workers will be drones that don't need a union. And what about the republican mantra of ' go south ' where unions are suppressed. Michigan needs investment in diverse manufacturing so they are not as vulnerable, and that means a leader that actually cares and pushes new ideas, not vote getting. Nice try Trump. You need to be more than a cheerleader, how about a real leader

Please! T has done more for America, jobs and with deregulation and dropping corporate taxes than Barry did in 8 yrs. There is tons of "leadership" going on your bias just won't see it. Make America great again, that's a charlatan? I agree companies make stuff and provide shareholder value, but he is making the environment to do business much better there by benefiting everyone including the government that will take in more taxes due to more people working and less welfare and food stamps. "It's the economy stupid!"

When you state that Corporations go where it is best, then isn't it the President and our elected Representatives job to ensure it is best to be in the US rather than some other country that does not benefit the voters of those elected to run the country. Making it the best prospect for manufacturing may be making it more expensive to manufacture in another country by tariffs and legislation. Corporations have obligated themselves to the people of the US by taking tax incentives and bailouts from the people to operate here. Do you think the Corporation does not owe the taxpayer who is covering the bill for this tax break and still dealing with the burden of the bailouts. And then you mention drones for manufacturing in a way of supporting it by suggesting Michigan diversify. With a population of 300+ million in the US, how do you propose the bulk of the population earn a fulfilling living with automation? Automation provides large profits for a small group of board members and share holders while providing poverty and destitution for the lower middle to lower class working people. What then, does these classes of people just devote themselves to servitude for the wealthy in hopes of food and shelter?

But the real question is whether he's using quotation marks in this because if we go but Spicer's logic then we can't be sure if he's joking about promoting these new plants or if he's really serious... because, as we now know, the word "Plant" has a broad meaning.

Oh right of course we can build more plants in the USA. We all know they will be bankrolled from Russia and China just like Trump is. "The art of the deal" Right!

Corporations don't want to invest in the USA because Democrats hate business. They tax them as the enemy. They create all kinds of stupid environmental laws that destroy commerce, but do precious little to make the environment better. Undo the shit the Democrats have done to places like Detroit and corporations will invest and jobs will come back.

Look-The Republicans are basically in to feudalism. They want to screw over low income people getting rid of Medicaid, they want screw over older people by allowing insurance companies to charge 5X as much as younger people. So the net result is that low income people wont be able
to finance a car because they will get sick and die. Older people will have to choose between buying a car or paying the extra cost of health insurance. That is of course if our current "Mental Case" of a president does not get us into a war. What a scumbag!!

What a crock of Liberal, Socialist fascism.

People have a right to emergency medical care when needed.

They do NOT have a right to free or subsidized medical insurance.

Obamacare in no way curtailed costs. It did literally the opposite.

It's the Democrats who love enslaving the poor and minorities.

OK so then you support indigent funds. Because most low income families will not be able to afford health care. Then older people will have to pay a third more. So some of those will drop out. So when all of these millions of people drop out of the system how does the system support itself without raising rates further on health insurance. Getting back to indigents-If hospitals have to treat people who cannot afford medical insurance they end up incurring higher costs. The only way they can make up this extra cost is to charge more hospital stays and surgeries. So the net result is less insurance coverage and even higher insurance costs. By the way Fascism actually refers to right wing and Dictators. Donald Trump is a Fascist because he wants to control the media by lying, making up stories and creating chaos. The reality of Trump and the Republicans is simply this. Those white blue collar workers that voted for Trump will discover that they have to bare more financial burden do to the health care changes. They are not going to like it. Further who do you think is going to end up paying for this stupid wall. We are!!! The mid term elections are 20 months away.

Ah, once you go all-in with shareholder capitalism versus stakeholder capitalism (google it), the enterprise becomes less robust. Too much power with the unions and you get the British/French disease; too much with shareholders/management and it’s the American disease; too little power for the workers and it’s the Japanese disease. Which is why the Germans rule the premium automobile market, and any short-term moral suasion efforts by Trump will eventually fail.
