Is Yours On The List? Consumer Reports Names The Ten Lowest Rated Cars In America

It’s easy to become enamored when a car is shiny and new, complete with a new-car smell. But over time that seemingly great choice can look like a bad decision.

Here at Consumer Reports we spend a lot of time helping consumers make the best choices. But the same testing and surveys we use to make those determinations also show us, and you, products to avoid.

To help you keep buyer’s remorse at bay when it comes to car shopping, we’ve assembled a list of the worst picks in 10 popular categories based on the lowest Overall Score. Our Overall Score provides a complete picture of each model, combining road-test score, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety, including government and insurance industry crash-test results.

What do you expect from a reskinned Renault Megane?

While I'm not a fan of the CLA, I have to admit I have not heard one actual owner of one complain and in fact give the car high marks.

I can't get over the lackluster interior and drive quality but then again most ppl who buy the CLA go for looks and I guess compared to the competition the CLA wins

Benz knew exactly who they were targeting with that vehicle and what was at the top of their priority list, and surprisingly enough CLA's seem to be holding their own on the pre owned market well retaining value longer than comparable vehicles

A3 is much, much better looking inside and out and a better value. CLA sells because it has "star power" and that's all. If ANY other make put this car out, with its price tag, the reviews would be much less kind. And if it was a Cadillac, whew the car would be dead by now. Probably the worst MB ever!

That's because they are happy to say they are driving a Benz and not a Camry or Accord.

I test drove one of these before I took delivery on another vehicle. This car is AWFUL in terms of having very loud road noise inside; rode like a lumber truck; and to me too much cheap plastic all around. I think all auto makers are trying to squeeze every profit penny they can. So they ALL re-badge certain models or share parts. They've all diluted their brands with too many models. Hey BMW what happened to being the ultimate driving machine with your sports sedan. Not only must they cater to the soccer mom's, but we MUST give them so many flavors we can't identify the distinct differences in models: X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6 and so forth. Throw in do you want AWD on it, then the basic buyer is even more confused with the Xi designation added; but wait we have to have Coupes, plus 4 door coupes (I always thought a coupe was a 2 door vehicle). OK!! Wait - do you want the "comfort seats" option over the standard seat in your $60K-$80K car. Are you kidding - I must pay for a seat upgrade on a car that cost that much. No wonder why some of these cars are flops.

@gkearns56 The CLA is essentially a rebodied Renault Megane.

I agree with most of the cars on the list in this V2.0 post.

We love our Escalade.

The Tacoma is a surprise.

CLA is for kids, the expectations are not too high there.

The GTI and the GLI are better alternatives and feel more premium.
