Audi Sees No Use For Drift Mode On It's Vehicles Since It Is Isn't The Fastest Way Around A Corner
Before the time of multiple drive modes, the first traction control systems installed into cars were about as bad as you’d imagine the first blankets worn by cavemen to be: rough around the edges and either way too hot or not warm enough. Many intervened far too early for any spirited driving and if that was the order, could only be shut off to allow for smoky drifts. Not so anymore. Every automaker from Ford to Mercedes now offers a drift mode in its high performance offerings.

I been arguing this for the better part of my life. 2 wheel drifting in a corner is the slowest way around the corner.

A 4 wheel drift in some situations can set you up for a faster transition and therefore be faster in some situations, but any time you lose traction you are losing speed.

The days of spirited driving and drifting through a corner are likely to be over once cars are controlled by LAW - and through electronics - to limit speed - acceleration - and speed in corners - Agent 009. AS I have pointed out - Land Rover already has a system to limit speeds to posted speed limits. You can bet that once regulatory officials realize the "benefits" that no speeding - maintaining distances between vehicles - and controlled driving will offer - you can bet that there will be laws that REQUIRE those systems to be in place on all cars. WE are NOW in the last stage of "sport" driving a car - you will not be able to do so in the future - AND - that likely will result in the loss of the "sports" car as well.

Typical @TomM idiocy. Performance cars are likely to have a track mode that has to be engaged directly. The onboard computer could easily report whether the track mode was in play when a crash happened for the sake of vehicular laws. Thus, your liberal nirvana of passing laws to delete all fun from motoring is unlikely to come to fruition.

Drift Mode = Idiot Mode

Lets an ordinary dufus do what he saw in a movie, thinking that makes him cool... without the skills that are necessary to stay out of trouble, or to recover when he gets into trouble.

And with the price of tires I'm sure very few people are actually "drifting"?

I like grip in my performance coupes! Good for Audi.

Drifting is fun, but it's not how you do great track times. Cars like the GT86 that are biased toward being drifters so that they will feel like they are fun to drive are ultimately not the best at the track. Drifting lets idiots think they are amazing drivers when in reality they are amazing douchebags when they are in your way.

I don't need an Audi or Drift Mode on any vehicle -just a little Canadian snow and I am good to go!

Makes sense, we all know how Audi (and VW) love to cut corners

It isn't the fastest way around a corner? Neither is under-steer.
