IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED: Purported Email From Honda LEAKS The All-New Civic Si's Torque Number
I feel like I've been saying this quite a lot lately, but there's good reason for it. Honda's got its groove back!

Following up on the Civic's success are not one but two performance-oriented cars on the way. That would be the Civic Si, which is a tuner favorite, and the Civic Type R, which will be making its first appearance stateside.

Given the rather stiff competition in form of the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI, hopes have been riding high that the all-new Civic Si would come to the fight prepared. If what's being speculated as a leaked email rings true, it's not looking good for the upcoming Civic Si.

That's because the copy in the note specifically notes 192 lb.-ft. of torque. Considering the GTI is pushing out nearly 260 lb.-ft. and the ST is making 270, 192 falls quite short of that mark.

What say you, Spies? Should we consider this merely a typo or some sort of mistake. Or, is this likely the real deal?

If you're a Honda fan are you IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?

Got their groove back?? Put on your glasses. Their cars are still hideous. This is designed to please the condom-hating import tuner boy crowd that will throw on a NOS bottle and call it good. That is the Walmart of the performance world. The torque figure--if accurate--is a complete embarrassment. Honda is still clueless and adrift. They are the VW of the Japanese brands.

I think are looking at maybe 205HP at best. Essentially the 1.5 turbo is going to replace he N/A previous version on the Si coupe and sedan.
0-60 on the previous N/A version was in the mid sixes. Of course a good part of the power was in the upper rev ranges. I predict this new turbo will be slightly perkier than the Civic Sport Hatchback but not by a huge amount. It also depends on what this weighs in at. If it is over 3000 LBS I doubt it will be much quicker if at all then the current SI coupe. I would love to be proven wrong with Honda actually making the SI at 240HP and giving the 1.5 turbo the characteristics of a high revving N/A engine that Honda is known for.

Honda loves high revving with a dumb torque band. The S2000's engine was a case in point. It put respectable power and torque, but the torque band was too high in the rev range to be of any real use.

Honduh = all hp and no torque. No thanks.

Exactly. And to think that once upon a time Honda was known for leadership in engine design.

The positive aspect of this new turbo 1.5 is that it should have much better mid range torque in stop and go traffic.

Honda, with Civic, is proving they know what the market wants.
