Should Chevrolet Consider Making A Corvette SUV?

Maybe that’s not so far-fetched. Corvette is a singular car within Chevrolet, and in many ways is a performance brand unto itself. Almost every performance brand now has its own crossover; the most prominent of which is Porsche’s money-machine, the Cayenne.

If Corvette did make an SUV, what would it look like? Detroit News presentation editor Jamie Hollar drew his own concept car, shown here. And The Detroit News talked to ex-GM big wigs, auto analysts and car enthusiasts for their ideas on what the high-performance SUV should be.

That image doesn't qualify as an SUV or even a cross-over. The most they could claim is a station wagon, or "shooting brake" as is popular to call them nowadays. A Cayenne may be a Porsche, but it still has SUV ground clearance.

Currently Corvette is a singular product of Chevrolet - BUT - if they made Corvette a "Brand" - that would release them to produce other vehicles - mid-engine - and CUV as well. THere is nothing that says that a Corvette CUV would have to look like their sports car. In fact - it would be interesting to see if they could come up with a real example of a SPORTS CUV - which could really lead the world.

Strangely enough it could easily work copying the Porsche model for success. Take an SUV platform that is mid size and could be made into a sporty ride, give it some Corvette design queue's and drop in the same motors and there you have it. People will buy it just like a Cayenne. It would likely end up looking a bit like the Urus.

Making Corvette a brand with a Manta Ray, Stingray, Zora, and a Corvette "Cayenne" would be a perfect move to put alongside Cadillac in stand-alone GM premium dealerships. Then if GM bought Jeep from FCA...

Make an offroad "capable" coupe with hatch. Something thats a Baja vehicle that can also be driven on the road. Something like a refined batmobile. No one is making that.

Corvette could become its own brand...eventually. In like 20-30 years. Unless there was some kind of ultra-compelling CUV design that could really be use today, don't hold your breath.

Corvette could become its own brand TOMORROW. The F/R Stingray could easily produce another Stingray. The M/R Corvette could be a Zora above it. Use the ATS platform for a F/R coupe and you'd have a car line.
