Tesla Autopilot Blamed In Model X Hitting A Police Motorcycle

Accidents involving Tesla vehicles have often been blamed on the Autopilot lately. The latest example happened in Phoenix last week when a Model X hit a police motorcycle. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The police said that the driver blamed the Autopilot.

From the model X owner's manual: "Warning: Automatic Emergency Braking
is designed to reduce the severity of an impact. It is not designed to avoid a collision"

Alright Tesla, time for you to call your big brother Benz whom has quadruple the amount of cars on the road as you do with autonomous features yet they manage to lay relatively low.

interesting that the car was at rest and creeped up on the motorcycle until the impact. Where was the driver in the whole process? All they had to do was press the brake.

The driver can blame all they want, but they were at fault by not paying attention.

This remains a case where Autopilot in this vehicle did not cover this scenario. Autopilot in many ways - assists the driver - BUT - the driver still must do certain things - like stopping at a stop light. But I can blame TESLA - because they should offer some type of process for a driver to learn what is and is NOT covered under Auto-pilot. Or they should rename it AUTO ASSIST.

"Stopped at a stoplight" is the operative quote. You can only use Autopilot on the freeway, so someone didn't read the instructions. You cannot use it on normal roads with stop signs and stoplights (yet). RTFM.

Also, Mercedes does not have a system that you can use at highways speeds (yet) and I have no idea what the Civic comment is based on, definitely not reality. No other car being sold today have autopilot-equivalent tech for the highway. Do some research on what these cars actual have. A beep or slight adjustment when you veer over the line is not autopilot.
