Cadillac Prepping 8 New Models For The US Market
There was only one major issue with Cadillac’s plan to revive itself from the brink of ’08 extinction and one day become a mighty force in the luxury market: the fact that it banked its resurgence on sedans that looked as handsome as the Germans’, handled just as well, but had a tinge of American personality. Not that its cars are any bad, but if it was sales numbers the automaker was after, it should have stuck close to the Germans and built more SUVs.

The article says "China has a thing for Cadillac". Does that mean they like Caddy's styling? It leaves me cold, but if the target market likes it, then score!

GM really needs to make cars for China and different ones for the USA. The CT6's dullness may excite the Chinese, for the American market, it need 500% more style.

The ticket is still sitting there, El Miraj with a V12 and a V8 hybrid, and even an all Electric option...

The Elmiraj and the Escala would have been game changers. NAMES!!!

Completely agree! Names and those concepts. It's rediculous they're just sitting there gathering dust. My wife just saw the Escala TV commercial and said let's go look at that it's gorgeous! Also why not a CTS personal luxury coupe (not a GT Coupe or fast back) with a usable back seat and the base Corvette V8 w 400bhp. I get the VSport but that V8's just sitting there! Who else makes a useable 2 door coupe w/a V8 for reasonable money? And it wouldn't cost that much to make... not sure Johan is getting it done...

I have to agree with MD. Names for all Caddy's. It is part of the history of the brand in such a profound way that it prohibits alpha numeric designations from ever feeling right. They just don't fit the brand. Name each model and you will see more recognition, traction and sales results.

They don't need to worry about their styling being copied. Eight new models is just filling the market segments for car and SUV models, nothing earth shattering.

1 - The biggest problem with the Cadillac sedans so far has been really poor packaging - the interior space is at best - not competitive.
2 - The Arts and Science styling worked at the beginning - but it stayed around too long. They SAY that the new cars will look more like the Escala - that would be a step in the correct direction - but they still need to NAME the cars.I still prefer the El Miraj to the Escala - and am turned off by the Hatchback design - which will not work for a Luxury sedan for me. (Note - I have and am happy with my CT6 - but there is NO real styling - it looks ten years old when new.

@TomM I agree 100%

@1 The first CTS had the right idea i.e. be bigger than a 3 Series, but cost the same. Now it feels smaller than a 5 Series and costs the same.

ATS = CLA
CTS = C Class
CT6 = E Class

But let's rename them.

@2 The Escala is a brilliant move stylistically, but it's too tame to be a concept. It looks like a production version of a concept.

Beside that though, I'd repurpose Deville for the XT5 and Fleetwood for the model between the XT5 and the Escalade.

And finally, they need to do an S CLass alternative that makes no excuses and probably is sold at a loss just to regain status. Might I suggest Biarritz?

I'm a huge 60s Cadillac fan.
