#NYIAS: MORE Snaps Of The All-New, 2018 Lexus LS500 F Sport — So, What Do YOU Think?
Making news at the 2017 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) was the all-new, 2018 Lexus LS500 F Sport. Some would say for the right reasons, others would argue the other way.

From my perspective, this is something we've been looking for a long time.

As I noted in a previous thread on the LS F Sport, we've been wondering when an automaker would be bold enough to give a full-size luxury sedan the styling of a slinky, sexy coupe. Well, it's happening with the all-new Lexus LS.

And, it even carries into what's going on underneath the body. That's because it is essentially an elongated LC chassis. Having just driven the LC I can say with confidence that there's very good things in store for the all-new LS.

Having said that, I wanted to provide the Spies with an all-new set of pics to get some more impressions. So, what do YOU think?

Should have been the Toyota Avalon. Hate the rear quarter and bulbous front.

The front is ungainly. At least in a darker color on the F-Sport it is slightly less disagreeable. I think the best thing about driving this car is you won't have to see the grill.

Should be renamed the LSD 500 F-Sport. The designers have to be on acid to come up with a front and rear end this bizarre looking.

In all honesty, I wonder if Lexus lovers like the styling, or whether they put up with it to get the other Lexus attributes they like.

Market research by Lexus says that Lexus owners like that their cars "stand out" and "make a statement". Lexus did a lot of research on the sci-fi monster mouth and then took the time to explain it to nervous dealers.

Lexus owners tend to trend more "new money" than "old money". Thus, "this is how BMWs (Audis) have always looked" isn't a selling feature. New and flashy designs work.

Lincoln gets it sort of. The Continental and Navigator leap in the right direction, but remain a wee bit too subdued.

Cadillac and Buick stylists get it, but GM won't let them build cars like the Escala, Elmiraj, Ciel, Avenir, and Avista respectively.

Mercedes understands the concept and has added sophistication to the idea. MB caught on to this Lexus tidbit quite some time ago and has put much more flash into their design all while not alienating traditional buyers.

Unfortunately this LS500 looks like a mixture/love child of a Hyundai and Nissan. That Lexus front ends just gets uglier and uglier with each new model not to mention the back ends are getting uglier and uglier too.

Seems the grill is getting more and more cartoonish with every version. I look to see if a cartoon character to hop out of it.

Obviously would need to wait to make final judgment in person, but it's just not doing it for me. Looks like too many other Asian sedans that are already ready for re-design. And the front-end is busier than squirrel in a pit of acorns.

30 years after it all began, based on sales numbers, Lexus seems to have proven that they are adept at creating shock value, but not long-term appeal.

One outstanding design element is the lighting, too bad they are not on here.

Except for the grill (what are they thinking), the rest of the vehicle looks pretty good.
