2009 Audi A7 Coupe and Convertible

2009 Audi A7 Coupe and Convertible
It seems that Audi really wants to be one of the best makers ever. And with the new Audi R8 just launched and with all the new models set to come it has all the chances to make it true. The last rumors arround are about the A7 Coupe and Convertible, which start arriving in 2009. The A7 is a direct competitor for the Mercedes CLS four-door coupe.

The new A7 is based on Audi’s upcoming mid-sized Q5 platform and powered by a range of six feisty petrol and diesel engines with paddle-shift S tronic (nee DSG) transmissions as standard. Both four-seater coupe and convertible will sit on a modular new platform architecture with all-wheel drive quattro drivetrains that have a strong rear-end bias for driver-oriented handling.

The A7 will be powered by the Audi’s top-end petrol and diesel engines. Expect the range to kick off with the 260bhp 3.2-litre V6 and 350bhp 4.2-litre V8 FSI direct injection petrols and 235bhp 3.0-litre V6 and 325bhp 4.2-litre V8 TDI units. No four-cylinder engines are planned and even Audi’s miracle engineers admit they can’t squeeze in the mighty W12 under the A7’s bonnet. The engine range will be further bolstered by the later arrival of the R8-sourced 450bhp 5.2-litre V10.

Oh my goodness, if that car was food I would eat the whole thing.

Audi will have a waiting list for this car! The engine lineup is impressive on the high end of the power output.

Any info/rumor on a 2008/09 RS6? Went to my local dealer(Rusnack Pasadena) to check out the S6 and found the styling very bland for the $$$.

I could hardly pick it out from the A6 4.2 S-line they had next to it.

As excited as I am about upcoming models (R8, A5, A7), I'd like to see Audi stay true the the hits that gave them their almost cult following

RS6 - the car looks great on the road. Remember the S6 is not an M5 competitor just a car that fits above the 550 BMW and is about 10 k more.

I love my S6/ there is a rumor on forutitude that quotes an unnamed Audi rep. They say expect the RS6 much sooner then everyone expects. There are rumors as early as Toyoko.

530hp!! Won't that make it the more powerful uber sedan on market? (assuming MB up the E63's 507)

I'm curious to know how aggressive the next RS6 exterior will be given Audi's current styling direction

RS6Fiend-

It actually may have something closer to 550hp. 530hp wouldn't be unexpected, but I think they may take an extra push to make it the best. Hopefully it will bring the same rave reviews and sell-out status that the RS4 has.

IamEvilHomer-

Do you have the '03 S6 Avant, or the new one? My friend has an '03 and it's such a cool car.

Not as cool as mine, of course.

S4cabriofox - '03 RS6 Sedan. Would've opted for the Avant had Audi imported the "hell on wheels" RS6 Plus. But as usual only Europeans get the really hot cars to rip down their coblestone streets

So we looking at a twin turbo V10 in the next RS6? It'll have to be at least 550HP+ to really stand apart from the S6's 435HP

The S-line isn't meant to scream "fast", it's just meant to be fast. If you want a car that stands out, look at the M5 or the E63. If you want a more refined sleeper, the S6 is the better choice (although not quite as quick as the latter two autos)

You can also always get some wild but tasteful body kits from Germany for not that much money.

Okay, okay, I know. You're defending the S6. I have an S car myself, and they're more power than anyone would ever need.

But-- I'm tired of people confusing the S cars with the S-LINE cars. There's a difference! S-Line is just a special bodykit series produced by Audi, while the S cars are developed by quattro GmbH and have not only cool bodykits, but sportier interiors, more powerful engines and different accessories (and higher prices).

But there's no substitute for RS, and Porsche, of course...

apologize for the error (i also know that the m5 and e63 don't compete directly with the S6 before anyone jumps on my back about that)...just making a point. Agree about the RS and Porsche.

question, customers should not buy a R8 if you want the fastest Audi they should buy the RS6.

The R8 V10, which may come out as soon as next year and have 500-550hp, will be faster than an RS6.

But both are unbelievable cars-- they're taking too long with the RS6, though. It better be worth it. I can imagine another RS4-type smash hit, where it drives better than any other Audi has before.

s4cab- i agree but audi's idea is to come out with the new body style
wait a year or 2 then come out with the S6 then wait a year or so then come out with the RS

I would love Audi to come out with the S and RS the same time or all within one year.

look everyone, someone unbiased and with a realistic viewpoint! you just explained in your post what we've been arguing about for years.
of course audi is 1st tier. and you explained why!

yay wilco, he is now a hero.

Also, by the 2009 model year the V6 and the V8 will have more power most likely.

Thank you, Wilco!

A completely un-biased, factual view!

Most people on this website who think Audi is on par with Acura and Infiniti are the BMW lovers who can't think of anything but BMW.

"The DSG, which Audi calls an "automatic," is really an electro-hydraulically controlled manual transmission (or auto-clutch manual). You can opt for a standard stick, but why? The DSG is faster and delivers shifts as smooth as in the best automatics. And it blows away everything else in the clutch-pedal-less manual-transmission category. BMW's base-level Sequential Manual Gearbox? Nein. Ferrari's pricey F1? Arrivederci. Toyota's SMG? Sayonara, too."

"And it blows away everything else in the clutch-pedal-less manual-transmission category. BMW's base-level Sequential Manual Gearbox? Nein."

Read it and weep, logical.

Look at chewy's photoshop- it's quite agressive, as well as elegant, and it comes off as a great-looking four-door coupe that fits in between the A6 and A8 quite nicely.

And if Lexus and Audi joined forces against BMW, it may come off as the best car in the world.

Lexus's dependability and ultra-smooth rides, paired with Audi's design/tech and a merger of engines, as well as Audi's second-best handling, would be quite an appealing car.
