Is ANYONE Doing Interiors BETTER Than Mercedes-Benz Right Now?
With each and every model Mercedes-Benz rolls out, it's hard not to be impressed. Whether it's something on the low end of the price spectrum, like the GLC-Class, or something priced in the stratosphere, like the refreshed 2018 S-Class, it is becoming more clear that the three-pointed star is onto something.

What can the manufacturer do wrong?

New York Auto Show

At the 2017 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) it's hard for me to think of a booth that had more compelling products on the stand. I could have spent plenty of time walking around Mercedes' fleet happily spending time in each vehicle. But, time was ticking.

That said, I wanted to point out a decked-out C43 as well as an S-Class plug-in and simply ask one question: Is ANYONE else doing interiors BETTER than Mercedes-Benz right now?

And now, I wait.

If colors like orange leather are indicative...NO. In general though, Mercedes has the best interiors in the premium market.

I think Mercedes has great interiors but there exteriors are not as great so that leaves a bit to be desired. I personally would choose a vehicle whose exterior is rated at a 9 out of 10 or higher and whose interior may only be a 7/8 out of 10 vs a vehicle whose interior was a 9 out of 10 (or higher) but whose exterior was only a 7/8 out of 10. Now that I have confused myself and probably everyone else, that was a not so quick response to a very simple question.

I prefer Audi's clean, modern and uncluttered interior design to Mercedes-Benz's diamond stitching everywhere look. In the S-Class I find the diamond pattern on the dash to be overkill.

Technology might be a different issue, but I don't see BMW or Mercedes-Benz offering anything like Audi's Virtual Cockpit.

From an interior quality and technology perspective, Audi is the interior winner to me.

If your talking about the leather stitching MB has some nice looking leather seats. If you are talking about that UGLY drive in movie theater dash then NO - that long square thing reminds me of my dad's old Buick. They can do better on that pod area.

Yes, Benz is leading this. Audi and Volvo are doing high quality, nicely designed interiors, but they are cold and sterile like they were designed by robots with no emotional involvement. Lexus might be coming up right behind Benz with the LS and LC interiors. Those interiors aren't quite as extravagant as Mercedes, but more emotive than Audi and Volvo.

The bottom line is interior is design is subjective. The people who like the bold Mercedes-Benz look with diamond-stitching, buttons and different colors probably won't like Audi's clean, modern and clutter-free look.

Mercedes-Benz and Audi both offer very high quality interiors but their approach couldn't be more different.

What about BMW? I didn't see it come up in the article or comments. I think there is a reason for that. BMW's interiors have fallen behind its competitors in quality, ergonomics and technology. Could it be that after buyers see the richly detailed Mercedes-Benz interiors or the clean, sleek and modern Audi interiors that they are disgusted by BMW's cheap and flimsy interior materials and less ergonomic design? I definitely think so.

There you go again with BMW. Why? You have issues. BMW interiors are NOT low-quality. They are not the most amazingly designed interiors, but the materials are top-notch. Get it right.

I wonder if the diamond stitching will age well in style.

Definitely depends on your taste, MB and Lexus are the best on traditional interior, big screen, comfort, mood-setting design.

BMW and Audi are clean and contemporary, which I think suited the younger audience.

Disagree. Tacked on LCD panel is a dud design wise. Quilted leather on the dash is too much, over the top. No in line with the brand IMHO. But colour is so much more interesting than a black interior. I can never understand the attraction to black cars or interiors. But they remain easiest to sell.

Interiors? Walk yourself over to the nearest Aston Martin dealership and sit down in any Aston you see. Now that's a bit of nice!
