#NYIAS: AWESOME or AWFUL? Is The All-New Honda Civic Type R A Bit Too Overstyled In The Flesh?

#NYIAS: AWESOME or AWFUL? Is The All-New Honda Civic Type R A Bit Too Overstyled In The Flesh?
One of the most anticipated cars for enthusiast making its first stateside appearance at the 2017 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) was the Honda Civic Type R. That's because pumped up pocket rockets are in.

Just think. Between the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R, Subaru WRX STI and Ford Focus RS there's plenty of room for an all-new entrant. That's where the Civic comes into the mix.

But there's a twist.

That's because this 300 horsepower Honda will not benefit from an all-wheel drive setup. Instead, all of that power will be sent exclusively to the front wheels. A bit odd, yes, but perhaps Honda knows something that we don't.

All that said, we want to focus simply on the Civic Type R's styling for this story. What say you, Spies? Is it a bit too overstyled, OR, did Honda's design department get this one right?

Ready for Tuner Kidz, right out of the box.

There is no part of this car, that shouldn't be there. Every single facet has been thought out, right down to the smallest component, so to accuse it of being over-styled, simply indicates a lack of information and understanding.

Ha - that's laughable....the 3 exhausts with the center one smaller than the others, the fake vents, the rear wing that blocks your view - yeah, that's all "thought out" to be extremely ugly

Seriously, did you mean to add "sarcasm/off" in your post, because the fake extra large rear vents to the right and left of the exhaust is a bit much while the additional creases and angles over the fenders is about 5 years too late to the party.

A car that my 21 year old self would buy but can't afford, and a car I can now afford but would not touch. Sorry, but I can't show up in front of my clients and associates in this thing. Golf R, yes, but not this. Sadder still, the new Civic Si is better suited style-wise for most people. This thing is straight from SEMA's design collection, ugh.

At one time we said Honda was so bland, time to reign them in again.

It’s got elements of Aztec overkill. I like it because it’ll give me something to laugh at on the road.

Should have been a 3 door like the previous EU only model.

Asking if this exterior styling is too much is like asking if the wing on a Subaru STi is tall enough. I think the more outrageous the better. It's not a looker, but ain't nobody gonna mistake it for something else. Can't wait to see the first chump that takes his standard issue hatchback and attempts to "sport" it up to the R-type - and you know its gonna happen - badges and all.

Just like those idiots that pry the 320i off that back of their BMW hoping people won't know - despite the fact the single tail pipe gives it away.

But I digress.
