#NYIAS: The PROPER Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet Is BACK! Does It Live Up To The Classic From The 1990s?
One vehicle that always surprised me with how it held its value was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet from the 1990s. Perhaps I am missing something, but why did it fetch top dollar for so long?

Now if you want a low mileage, clean example you can find them retailing for about $20,000. A nice price slash.

While there was a previous-gen E-Class convertible, it was actually built on the C-Class chassis. This all-new E, on the other hand, is all E through and through. It was conceived from the ground up and unlike the last-gen vehicle will not be masking as something it is not.

This had me wondering while I stood at the company's 2017 New York Auto Show stand whether it will actually live up to the highly desirable classic from the 1990s.

So, what say you, Spies?

This is my future used car to buy in 10 years when I'm ready to stop driving my manual but not quite ready to let autonomous driven mobility do all the work.

In 10 years a well kept example should be no more than $25,000 in today's dollars.

I'm sure old people with money will love the Mercedes Cascada.

The E-Class convertible is a much nicer package (better proportioned, much more space efficient, "Big Enough") than the S550 convertible. So from that standpoint it will be a big hit.

If you are in the market for the S-Class convertible, the much better package is the Bentley GTC cab which is a little more expensive but much more handsome and much roomier.

I disagree with your comments about the S-Class cabriolet. In Canada the Bentley GTC is over $100,000 more for a comparable model. It is not roomier (yes I am shopping and have been in both), has much poorer performance, and relies on technology that is barely last generation. I would agree the Bentley is the looker but the Mercedes, built properly is a stunning vehicle with tremendous presence. There are also many comparisons on line as well with most favouring the Mercedes.

If you put the E-Class and the S-Class side by side you will notice the superiority of the S-Class. Yes it is larger but that does somewhat translate into more interior room.
