RENDERED SPECULATION: IF The Subaru Ascent Looks Like THIS In Production Form Would You Give It Two Thumbs UP or DOWN?

RENDERED SPECULATION: IF The Subaru Ascent Looks Like THIS In Production Form Would You Give It Two Thumbs UP or DOWN?
Making its 2017 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) debut was the Subaru Ascent. If you didn't catch the coverage right here on AutoSpies.com, we'll give you the brief update right now.

Long story short, it's the concept version of Subaru's upcoming seven-seat sport-utility vehicle. Acting as a successor to the Tribeca, thankfully, it won't feature what was nicknamed by some as "the flying vagina" front grille.

To me, the concept had a bold design that would easily go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder. As loyal Subaru owners expand their families or seek a vehicle with more space, it makes sense for Subaru to return to this class of vehicles in a more meaningful way.

That said, the folks at Carscoops decided to render the transformation of the Ascent from concept to reality. We know vehicles get diluted, it's just a matter of to what degree.

Probably 100% accurate. It will be another yawn-inducing Subaru.

So basically if the Highlander never existed...this would be the Highlander concept. Not original at all.

But that's the "magic" of Toyota. The Highlander is basically a "sleeper" vehicle. It kinda nice to own. However, it's fairly invisible on the streets. It's a nice-looking CUV with all kinds of really good interior content...especially when it's loaded. Why would you NEED to by an RX or HX, just get the up-trim Highlander.

So, with that, Toyota can better leverage R&D dollars & build the Ascent using the Highlander platform & save a ridiculous amount of cash with the "new" CUV for Subaru. Makes total sense I'd say.

Interior is pretty nice spoiled by the boom box center stack B+. Exterior is fairly familiar and breaks no new ground. Not ugly or offensive but also nothing real interesting. The front fender flare is nice yet does not seem to fit with the style of the rear fender flare. C

A great choice for Outback clients who now have more kids, a puppy that grew into a 110lb dog, a cottage to go to that was passed down to them from Grandpa or a boat to tow.
