"Tesla has been actively hiring in the past few months for assembly-line jobs at the Fremont plant. But finding manufacturing engineers, who are in even shorter supply than software engineers in Silicon Valley, is a tougher challenge.

Doug Patton, president of SAE International, a professional association of automotive engineers headquartered in Pennsylvania, said Tesla's search for engineers in Mexico underscored a dearth of talent in the industry.

We have a shortage of US native Engineers because across the nation as school districts have been dominated by more conservatives they try to push more Jesus (the US-flag waving White man version) into classrooms at the direct expense of Science and Math. Indeed, religious nuts now controlling the circulum and textbooks have branded whole concepts in Science and Math (Set Theory, Infinity Flavors, Climate Change, Evolution, etc) as heretical against God. No wonder we are graduating many more Business Management, Finance, and Marketing types rather than Engineers. We as a society value these career choices over those that threaten conservative religious beliefs. it didn't used to be this way.
