Maserati Offers Unlimited Mileage Warranty On CPO Vehicles - Is This The Safe Bet For Buying That Italian Luxury Car You Always Wanted?
Maserati is just now getting around to offering a certified pre-owned program, which isn’t surprising since historically Italian cars and reliability didn’t often go together. But if you want a depreciated Maserati and worry about repairs, a CPO car could be just the thing.

Since the program just launched there aren’t that many Maserati CPO vehicles available, as dealerships are selecting specific cars to qualify under the program. In order for a car to be a certified pre-owned model, it must still have a balance of the new car warranty which is four years 50,000 miles, according to Maserati. In addition to that, the car must also “be in accordance with factory standards for condition and service compliance.”

Maserati is not a brand known for its reliability. Quite the opposite is true. An extended warranty does not negate that fact. It just means the owner will be paying for breakdowns a little later, and they still have the inconvenience of defects and losing their car to the shop much more than they'd like.

The Ghibli and the Quattroporte are about as reliable as the Dodge Charger they pretty much are under the skin. Same platform and engine from Kokomo. Where they are less reliable is the electrical stuff.

I'd lease a Maserati but NEVER buy one.

Yes, back in the days Maserati had their quality issues, after Ferrari purchased them things really turned around. Yes people Ferrari owned Maserati, & still maintains a close partnership after selling them to FCA. My GT was originally all Ferrari, it was designed & intended to be release as a Ferrari, at the last hour Ferrari decided to put the Maserati badge on it & design another car. That change everything for the Maserati brand, quality, value....

As for Doug, I agree with his review, but also check out any exotic Italian or British car 2015 & earlier. Compared to most German & Japanese Luxury cars, they were all awful. Btw, German luxury cars are amazing at hp & handling, but the Japanese tech is always on another level, unless of course you buy a Tesla which is the best of all worlds (except of course that fine Italian styling).

All exotic & luxury cars have big pluses & minuses. I have owned Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, BMW, MB, Infiniti, Lexus & Maserati. Currently on my 3rd Maserati, bought a 2016 Ghibli, 2017 QP, & then a 2017 GT(was waiting on the Alfieri, GT is still amazing though, even after 10 years). All have great quality, awesome warranties, with reasonably priced extended maintenance & warranty packages.

GT technology has everything but really needs updating (my dealer installed cameras for the car, would not purchase w/o them). The interior is all exotic, even the rear is on another level of refined exotic quality for basically a GT race car (my Porsche GT3 had no standard a/c, nav, or radio, was extra $ to install). The Ghibli is refined, but not on the same level as the QP or GT, people asked all the time to check out the interior of the QP (they are blown away by the fine Italian quality, absolutely beautiful sedan). QP Technology is on par with any manufacturer, it even has to fridges standard to keep drinks cool, the interior lighting at night is freaking awesome & ingenious. What are people complaining about, have you seen the tech in 2016 & earlier Ferrari's, especially compared to a Lexus? My $40k, 2010 Lexus HS250H with tech package blows all of them away, so stop it everyone. Bentley shares parts with whom? You can buy a brand new Aston Martin at an average $90,000 discount. My Ferrari's depreciation was unbelievable w/i a year (they make you pay full sticker, try selling it back w/i 6 months for any close to that is laughable).

All these cars are expensive to maintain & things go wrong. BMW M3 was crap after a couple of years. All my MBs were insanely expensive to maintain (thank goodness, every time they were under warranty).

Leasing any car is the worse, unless you are a corporation, ask any financial adviser. I bought & traded in 3 cars w/i 6 months, & came out break even, try doing that with a lease.

The real question is - WHy do you assume that we ALL want an Italian Luxury Car?
Maserati does not offer a 12 cylinder. Since I drove my first Jaguar 12 Cylinder - I wanted a 12 cylinder car - and I have one now. AND it was made in GErmany

However - as a person who also has had a gaggle of expensive car over the last two centuries - the real problem with leading edge cars is that - they have all the new - not quite proven technology - and you get experimented on - not just the purpose - but the repairs that have never been done before. By the time Anti-lock brakes made it to Toyotas - Mercedes owners had payed huge sums to get their to work - find out the inherent problems - and design a simpler - cheaper - and more reliable example. Happens with EVERY new feature. So - Unless you are happy with a Small Block powered Old CHevy Nova with crank windows and 4 on the floor - you are going to PAY for it.
