Diesels Accounted For 12% Of Volkswagen April Sales In The US
Diesel models accounted for nearly 12 percent of Volkswagen's U.S. sales in April, a sign that consumer demand for such models persists, even as the company recovers from widespread emissions violations.

Volkswagen Group resumed selling diesel cars in the U.S. last month.

The world's largest automaker by sales was barred by U.S. authorities in September 2015 from selling about 11,000 new 2015 diesel Golf, Beetle and Passat cars after the automaker admitted to using secret software to exceed emission limits for six years.

Before the scandal, diesels accounted for about 20 to 25 percent of VW brand U.S. sales.

I contacted my dealer shortly after VW was given approval to modify and sell the 2015 models that were being warehoused. He told me they were all already sold. Yes, there's still huge demand for diesel. For me, it's just not available in the models I want. I want a diesel in the new Tiguan coming this summer, but I doubt that's going to happen.

If sales of the old models continues to be brisk, the might be compelled to bring a few more here

I don't know if this indicates a strong demand for diesels, or a strong demand for heavily discounted vehicles.

I drive a 2015 Audi Q5 3.0 diesel (Dieselgate Edition), and I love the engine. I'm also extremely wary of Volkswagen Audi Group's diesels because I'm reading of widespread reports that their "fixed" 2.0L diesel engines are now experiencing early failures.

VW really needs to move past diesel.

Matt: Or figure out a way to make it LEGITIMATELY emissions compliant and reliable, in order to win back the diesel-fan customer base they alienated through Dieselgate. But based on what I've been reading from VW, it *appears* they're throwing in the towel because they can't do that honestly and cost-effectively.

$5000 MSRP to buy or $8500 off MSRP to lease after a 2 years hiatus on TDI sales, hardly "high demand". It's still a great buy though if you need a highway cruiser and don't mind about the future of the fix.
