Do Plunging Auto Sales And Increasing Inventories Mean Layoffs Are On The Way?
U.S. auto sales plunged by 4.7 percent in April, a significantly greater decline than industry analysts had expected, and the fourth consecutive month that demand has fallen for new cars, trucks and autos.

The news appears to signal that, after seven years of steady growth — including three consecutive years of record sales — the American motor vehicle market has hit the top of its game.

So just how far will the market drop in 2017 and beyond? That could determine not only whether industry earnings have also peaked, but whether manufacturers will ramp up the pace of production cuts and layoffs they've ordered in recent months.

re Headline: Yes, the possibility of layoffs is there. Some North American factories are already having short-term shut-downs (a few weeks) to let inventory thin out. Another possibility is more attractive incentives to move inventory.

The mouth-breathers that glue these POS american cars together fell for BS and lies and voted red last November, so, fk them; I hope they all get laid off and go bankrupt. Maybe that will teach them not to vote for a proud and admitted con-artist and crook.

excellent description of MDarringer...but calling him a moron is an insult to real morons, he's quite a few steps below what it takes to be an actual moron, which is just pitiful. You have to wonder how hateful, racist and bigoted clowns like Darringer manage to even get out of bed in the morning they're so innately stupid.

Thanks again for your ongoing demo of being #Triggered (something you frequently attribute to others). You really do fly off the handle quite easily when anyone disagrees with you. That's when you go nonlinear and hurl insults and belittle others. You do the same when people accurately identify you as being hateful, one of your dominant characteristic that is amply demonstrated in your posts.

You continue to attribute the worst of your own characteristics to others. This is a pathology known as "externalization". I truly and sincerely hope you find a semblance of peace someday.

Trump is president in the good old US of A because 100M voters stayed home. Apathy won. Hate won. Bigotry won. Misogyny won. Anger won. Stupidity won. Greed won. US citizens lost. In 2020, don't boo, don't stay home, VOTE. I will be up here in Canada watching. With my universal health care, gun laws, multicultural society, poutine, centrist politics, climate change strategy and open trade policies. #Canadian

Everyone hates and despises Mad Dog Matty. Matty see himself as a copy of Dictator Trump, spewing hate, racism, bigotry, while spreading lies about everything he is clueless about(which is everything). Matty is like Trump in that he is old, white, fat, uneducated replication white trash, but he has no money, no business acumen, never completed high school and he certainly does have a young and beautiful wife. Instead he married a fat homely Italian girl that he despises yet he does not the balls to divorce her since it would mean giving up his father-in-law's money.

Sorry - CanadianCOMMENTS - but it is NOT pronouced ZED in the United States - just as Jaguar is pronounced differently here as well.

WE here in the UNITED STATES diverged from the United Kingdom in language nearly 400 years ago - legally a little later - and OUR language is AMERICAN English - YOURS is Reserved British English or French. As Winston Churchill admitted - after WWII - we now are the lead nation - and we set the standards - and the fact that you cling to your FLEMISH based roots is quaint - but of no significance in the USA. WE have our own language - which has progressed beyond yours.

As far as the second largest landmass - if you remove that which is largely Arctic cold in nature - the actual country lives in far less space than you think. And as far as the best part of North America - SORRY - but that is an opinion of a person from a second tier country that still recognizes a Monarch as the head of its government - even if only ceremonial.

THere is nothing wrong with being proud of your country - however - it has never been a world leader - and the USA is.

CANADIENCOMMENTS...Are any of your fellow countrymen the least bit concerned that when the Russians invade North America - they will likely do so thru the Arctic?

There was an article in NY Times today about how few icebreakers the US Navy has vs the Russians. How many icebreakers does Canada have? How many Candadian Navy personnel are charged with guardian the Northern Passage?

I'm not sure the Russians will give you free healthcare when the invade from the North.

Runbuh. American linguists might think so, but it isn't really the case. There are many words that follow the UK/English spelling in Canada. Honour, Neighbour, Favourite etc... Although we do pronounce aluminum the same way it as in the USA. Canadian and American versions of the English language are indeed different. As well French Canadian spoken in Quebec is different than the Parisian French spoken in France. I also find it odd that so many Americans still cling to the old idea of American Exceptionalism. $20T in debt, regular mass shootings, open carry gun laws, a Federal government and political system owned by corporate donors, climate in change denial and racism is alive and well. Believe the USA is a better nation than Canada if you want. We will still be your friend. It's only 4 years. We can wait. :)

Be that as it may, Canadians have a different dialect despite being aligned with American English just as the regions of the USA have distinct dialects within the umbrella of American English. Usage is not the same.

You will not find a better, more balanced place to live in the Americas than Canada. Aside from being a proud Canadian, the quality of life, the protection of our rights, the opportunities, stable government, social programs and yes the cultural diversity all make an ideal place to call home. Comparing land mass is like comparing dicks by the way.

runbuh - boot/trunk and hood/bonnet are the correct comparisons. As is petrol/gasoline. And no, not every single UK phrase/wording is used in Canada. But with so many UK ex-pats living here, and folks from Commonwealth nations, I would likely hedge my bets and say that the UK words for these stated items is used here regularly by a percentage of our population in conversation and personal messaging. But likely not in business communications.

Ah I see. I missed that point. I personally use mainly the North American versions of those words myself. But spelling remains Canadian/UK English. I was born here and am not a descendent of UK stock so gasoline, hood, bathroom, trunk, chips, chesterfield are used in our home. It is a mix I would say between NA and UK words/spellings.
