CAR WARS! Does McLaren 720S Now Have Ass Kicking Rights Over The Italians?
The McLaren 720S embodies the relentless quest to push the limits of possibility. Lighter, stronger, faster. It's all of these and more.

The beating heart of the 720S is a new and fearsomely powerful M840T engine with 720PS. Press the start button and the twin-turbo V8 comes alive with a potent growl that ignites your senses and focuses your mind. Bathed in vibrant red light, every part of this 4.0-litre unit is refined to maximize power, sharpen responses, and increase fuel efficiency.

But the question we ask is has it surpassed the Italians in performance AND cachet in YOUR opinion?

Great car. But not as pretty as the Italian offerings on the market. Wins $/vent value contest hands down.

This specific MacLaren comes across to me as a hollow-eyed swish-a-thon. Yech.

As for the Italians, we have Ferrari (disjointed, dissonant, and awkwardly styled) or Lamborghini (over-the-top flurry of trapezoids, flat surfaces, and straight lines -- A 1990's version of "The Future.")

Between these choices, I'd say they're all slim pickin's :-(

For my money, I'd rather have a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 or 4S. Granted, it's not a supercar or exotic, and it's a LOT less expensive than the previously mentioned vehicles, but it looks like a car, sincere, unpretentious, and beautiful... and it drives splendidly, offering capabilities that are well beyond those of the average driver. And it can make an easy-to-enjoy daily driver, too.

And this is coming from a guy who loves some older Ferraris (late Pininfarina era), Lambos (think 2006 Gallardo) and McLarens (e.g., 12C). They used to make breathtakingly gorgeous cars! They just don't anymore :-(

The McLaren looks like a new Mitsubishi Eclipse. When you get to this level, cars can be ugly and no one will really acknowledge that for fear of not being in the in crowd who knows things.

Indeed. I've been around people who can blow lots of money without even thinking about it and for them, a car like this is a no-brainer idea, but because I don't come from that kind of a mindset I tend to see the folly of vehicles such as this. Life has given me the opportunity to own some things and I own some things, but I'm also notorious for selling things if someone will pay more than I want from them. If a McLaren causes the owner joy, so be it, but my default tells me that a commensurate level of joy can be had for much less.

Absolutely gorgeous, but the sounds of the engine/exhaust just are off for me, for some odd reason.
