WHICH and WHY? IF You Lived In California And Wanted A Drop-top Cruiser, WHICH Would You Rather?

WHICH and WHY? IF You Lived In California And Wanted A Drop-top Cruiser, WHICH Would You Rather?
This morning I found myself scavenging for breakfast in lovely Sausalito, California. There's only a couple places open at around 7:00-8:00 a.m. in the morning, so, I hopped in my press loaner — a Mercedes-AMG GLE43 Coupe — and shot up the Bridgeway.

To me, this place is paradise. Living the life right on the water, I reckon it doesn't get much better than this. While enjoying breakfast at Fred's, I was somewhere in between my first slice of the Millionaire's Bacon when I started noticing a lot of nice hardware passing by at speed.

There was a cherry BMW E30 M3. Then a Ferrari 330 GTC. An early model year Lamborghini Diablo. And the hits just kept on coming.

I knew I had to check in at the village. Cars & Coffee would be pretty decent, I thought. And, it was.

While there was plenty of new and old to appreciate, I found the juxtaposition pretty great. All sorts of enthusiasts were out this morning. But, I found a particular pair stirring.

That would be a vintage Ford Thunderbird painted a pastel blue and a Ferrari F355 Spider colored the very appropriate Azzurro California. My mind started churning. Both are drop tops, both were painted a lovely blue hue and mint examples can be had for about the same price — $70,000-90,000.

If you were living the California dream, I've got to wonder: WHICH would you have and WHY?

Vintage or modern, it's hard to beat the Mustang, Camaro, and Corvette drop tops with automatics. V8 power and effortless cruising. There are lots of other tasty choices from the American muscle car heyday. Of course I'd also love to spend time a Jensen Interceptor drop top or a TVR Sagamora. If we're talking impossibility, then it's a Cadillac Ciel.

Why Cadillac didn't do the Ciel in four-door or drop-top form is beyond staggering to me...

@Agent00R The Ciel and Elmiraj would have been game changers. They also have names...

Completely agree with you!

Those were stunning vehicles.

There is nothing to compete with the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible - I believe that there will never be anything better. It exudes "rich". And it is impossible to mistake it for anything else - or anything else for it. You may not like the fins - I thought they looked great on this car.

The Ciel and ElMiraj looked nice - but they never made them.
