Volkswagen Shelves 10 Speed DCT - Crushes Prototype As Final Blow
Volkswagen has confirmed that it has dropped its plans of launching a 10-speed dual-clutch transmission.

While speaking to Automotive News at April's International Vienna Motor Symposium, VW powertrain chief Friedrich Eichler confirmed the gearbox had been dropped.

“Two months ago, I had the prototype crushed,” he said.

The DCTs from VWAG are notoriously fragile. They need to stick with conventional automatics that are much more reliable and smoother shifting. It is not uncommon for a VW DCT to fail between 50 and 100K miles

Actually - VW has no good news on the Automatic Transmission front either - their own transmissions are unreliable and incredibly expensive to repair. It is not unusual to see a VW 4 speed auto come in over $4000 to rebuild.
