CAR WARS! 70s Sports Car vs. 70s 4x4 — WHICH Would You Rather?

CAR WARS! 70s Sports Car vs. 70s 4x4 — WHICH Would You Rather?
It was only fairly recent that I realized that things typically are getting better all the time. While there's certain folks that have a fetish for things that are vintage or wish things were the way they use to be, I have grown out of that phase.

That doesn't mean vintage things aren't cool, however.

While I was walking around Sausalito I came across an old-school 4x4 without a roof. Not only was it badass, it fit with the scene. Laid back, open top cruising, playing some great jams first thing on a Saturday morning. Does it get much better than that?

Well, does it?

I am sure some would argue that a throwback Corvette or Challenger would be a better option. Given that the 1970s were very kind to things that went fast, there's plenty of options to choose from.

Having said that, we're a bit curious: IF you had a choice, would YOU rather have a 70s sports car or a 70s 4x4?

Give me a 70's sports car any day. 1970's 4x4s were basically trucks and really crude drivers, and likely to be rusted out too. But I can take apart a 70's Mustang or Camaro - build an appropriate engine and transmission (For Drag racing)- and really have fun. And there are bigger cars with large block engines as well from Buick - Olds - Pontiac and Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth (road runner). Replacement (new aftermarket) body parts are readily available for any of them too.

The 70s did a number on horsepower so nothing is really stunning by today's standards, but 4x4s of the 70s were pretty agricultural. I'd take sports cars and yes they are all compromised in some way.

70s "sports" cars I love:
Jensen Interceptor
TVR 2500M
TVR Tasmin
Jensen Healey
TR7/8
Mazda RX7
Porsche 914 914-6
240Z
Corvette
Mustang / Mustang II / Foxstang
Camaro
Challenger
Barracuda
