Super Sport Sedan IRONMAN: The Mercedes-AMG E63 S Takes On The Audi RS7, BMW M6 Gran Coupe And Lexus GS F
You know what I love? When an established publication decides to go against the grain and do something fun.

In this instance, this is precisely what one of the world's oldest buff books did. Our friends at Autocar decided to take the seemingly delicious Mercedes-AMG E63 S and put it up against the likes of the Audi RS7, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Lexus GS F.

Rather than do the typical review where points are allocated to certain categories and it's a head-to-head slugfest, this time it took a different approach. It considered the AMG "the challenger," and matched it up against what appears to be each strong suit.

Take, for example, the GS F's sound, which is monumental. The E63 takes it on. And then there's the RS7's zero to 60 time. The Benz goes head-to-head with it. And then there's the handling, which is the BMW's strength.

So, how did the AMG do?

You be the judge. See the final statements from the Autocar story, below.

...And so a final victory is beyond our ‘Ironman’ E63. It has failed to assert ultimate superiority over its closest rivals – and the manner of its last-ditch failure may be enough to cause a bit of concern among the AMG faithful who’ve enjoyed more rounded, lively and engaging fast E-Classes than this over the years; and whose ‘Drift mode’ was only ever one button press away.

This hasn’t been a normal group test. The cars in it have lined up one by one to take a swing at the new boy rather than trying to land blows on each other, so we won’t have rankings and we won’t have a winner. But if we were to have one, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have been the E63.

The poser is the one who spells "poser" with the "u" as if he's English where in actuality, he's just an American trying to portray himself as something more polish.

So do the Brits you fucking idiots. There are Americans who are spelling words the British way to project certain images and this is an example of that. You know, kinda like how MDarringer trying to portrays himself as a car connoisseur with his appreciation for cars that nobody knows or care about.

Dimwit: The Brits took the word from the French. You've been schooled. Now go bolt on the third or fourth NOS bottle to your blown out Integra.

Im assuming you are referring to MDarringer's "appreciation " for the TVR brand that "nobody knows or cares about". Well, it just so happens, i am an American and one of my top favorite marques happens to be TVR, the Cerbera and Tuscan to be exact. Off the original topic obviously but what is going on with the Gordon Murry/ Cosworth TVR comeback. Its been a while since ive heard any updates.

@Rianf1 There is video of the "Black Hound" prototype testing the drive train. The "Griffith" was shown to buyers a number of weeks ago and the reaction was generally favorable. Some felt it was not garish enough to follow the Sagaris so a few changes are planned before the September introduction. The car uses a number of key Mustang components for durability and reliability. The list is supposed to include the engine, transmission, differential, wiring harness, and other ancillary components. The first year is sold out and I plan to fly to the UK to see it. A "mate" there is in line for a first-year car. Cars are being prioritized to go into the hands of diehard TVR owners in the UK and Japan first. I'm hoping to get a year 2 car. Supposedly TVR hopes to return to the USA and when they do it is rumored that the 10 speed automatic going into the Mustang will be an option. The members of the TVR clubs in the UK have "heard" things but they are reticent to say anything for fear of jeopardizing a spot on the production list.

Speaking of nannies:

Hey I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew love before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman you made a bad boy out of me
Hey hey!

Kind of a useless article, really. The tester loved the E63 S but hated it at the same time. Sounds the best. It's the quickest. From what i can derive it has really great handling in some situations and not so in others due to its ride characteristics. The M6 handles well but doesn't have the ultimate handling capabilities of the E63S. So, in other words if Mercedes-AMG dialed down its ultimate handling capabilities and softened the ride, it would have "rated" higher. Sorry that the UK has such sucky roads.

I agree - we don't buy a car based on a single trait - the idea that they should compare them on that basis is nonsense. For example - compare the Toyota and Mercedes based on the number of "o"s in their manufacturers name. Means very little
