Widebody BMW M3 With Supercharged 4.5-liter V8 Packs 709 HP
G-Power from Germany wants to offer the ultimate M3 for road and track use, but rather than using the latest generation for its hardcore machine, the aftermarket firm starts the earlier E92-generation as the basis for this road-legal corner carver that it calls the M3 GT2 S Hurricane.

The company overhauls the M3’s already impressive standard V8 powertrain. The biggest change is that a long-stroke crankshaft boosts the displacement to 4.5 liters from the stock 4.0 liters. There are also forged components for the pistons and connecting rods. The stronger internals are necessary because G-Power also adds a supercharger that runs at 11.6 psi (0.8 bar). The result of all of this work is 709 horsepower (529 kilowatts) and 479 pound-feet (650 Nm). An limited-slip differential with a separate oil cooler helps make sure all of this grunt gets to the road.

Maybe I'm the exception here, but after tooling around in a 370 HP base Porsche Carrera 4, I'm more than thrilled with the power, and I recognize the car's capabilities exceed (by far) my abilities to use them at their limits. So I'm not caught up in the "horsepower wars"... but if you are, then enjoy!

Steve, you could not be more right man! I currently drive a c63 and there is no way that you can legally enjoy the full on tap power on a daily basis. About 15 minutes ago, for the first time, i drove a base 2003 911 carrera 6 speed coupe with about 315hp and the car just made me smile the whole time. In my opinion, its more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow.

Rianf1: When I did my motorcycle "performance training" (on track, with pro racers as instructors), we were provided with 600cc sports bikes. There was a woman there, as a student, with her own 200cc (not modified) street bike. The instructors warned the guys not to underestimate her because of our power superiority.

She was glorious is the twisties, with superb braking, line, and acceleration! Meanwhile, most of us guys were trying to catch her in the straightaways with our horsepower advantage. There's talent speaking, delivering superior results with less, than the louts driving "superior" machines. FYI, she was way better than me.

During the breaks from track time, she became somewhat of a celebrity :-)

You need all that horsepower to take your mind off that God-awful, velvet Elvis interior. Dismal!
