The Price Of Performance: Dodge Prices 2018 Challenger SRT Demon At Only $86,090

Get your pocketbooks ready: Dodge released pricing on the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. After lots of speculation, the Demon will start at $86,090 with destination fee and a gas guzzler tax. That’s not bad for a nearly purpose-built drag racer that you can drive away from a Dodge dealer.

Of course, when you drive away in your stone stock Demon, you’ll have only 808 hp feeding the Nitto drag radials. Getting the extra ponies involves checking the box for the Demon Crate, which comes with all the parts and pieces to turn this into a sub-10-second missile. The crate, which contains tools, tires, extra interior pieces and an extra ECU, will set you back a measly dollar. That’s right -- the crate is a $1 option. The rear and passenger seats are also a $1 option.

I'm surprised you are allowed to sell a car with only a single seat. The compromises are not worth it unless you live on a drag strip.

You assume Demons will be shipped that way.

LA is one big freeway.. put $100 down and buy a car. In or week or two they'll make you a star. :)

Definitely spend the $1. Skip the rear seats but get the passenger seat. Even if it is just there to hold/belt in a bucket of chicken vs having it roll around on the floor. Cheap speed if there ever was a car that deserved that title.

One of my "grandfathers" loved Dionne Warwick. Get two martinis in him and he'd sing along.

This is how you milk an old, tired cow for every sheckel you can. Merc is the master at this game with the Unimog and Gwagen. Good on Chrysler and it is still a sweet, menacing looking sled even after all these years. Money getting product. Bravo!

Dealers are going to rape the price of this car. A local for dealer was asking 90k for coyote V8 Mustang.... hell of a muscle car though.

Some dealers pretend to gouge prices on high interest cars for the purpose of reducing interest in those cars.

Dealers that gouge find their allocation from the manufacturer reduced on "gotta have" products.

A manufacturer cannot set a price limit for a dealer, but they CAN and DO change allocation based on transaction price data. Manufacturers CAN and DO monitor transaction prices and they gather that information in a number of ways. Believe it or not, the manufacturer does NOT want price gouging.

On the Shelby Mustangs, we did a market value adjustment tag next to the Monroney sticker of $25K to keep lookie Lou's at bay. When the dimwits came in and wanted to test drive a GT350, we asked them to demonstrate the ability to qualify for a loan.

Of course, they huffed and puffed and did their indignation...and left.

To long-time customers and local Mustang enthusiasts we were about 10% over list on the GT350 because you never screw over enthusiasts of a marque like Mustang or Corvette. In some cases we sold for list.

FCA dealers tend to be more "rape culture" for what it's worth.
