The first drive of the new 2018 Maserati Ghibli

When it comes to luxury cars, there are just a few models that can truly challenge the 2018 Maserati Ghibli. This car delivers plenty of performance, comfort, and luxury in one exceptionally good-looking package. While the previous Ghibli models were already ahead of their competition, the Italian manufacturer has decided to update and enhance the car even further. With powerful engine variants and that exotic Italian styling, the latest Ghibli will easily match anything coming from Lexus, BMW or Audi.

The article talks like it's a "sponsored link." The Ghibli has a well-known reputation for being underwhelming, with a cheap interior that uses stock parts from Dodge economy cars (e.g., switchgear from the Neon).

With a give-away quote like "While the previous Ghibli models were already ahead of their competition" (assuming the competition is either a luxury car or other vehicles in its class), the article carries no credibility with me. The Ghibli has been on the "must avoid" list for quite some time, unless "owning a Maserati" is a big deal for you.

It's reliability is mediocre. Put one on a lift next to a Charger and you'll see it's a Charger. Given that the Charger is more reliable, you must pay extra for the lower quality of the Maserati.

The Ghibli is fun when you drop a Hemi into it. You'll need to fabricate a hood, but it's doable.

The only time the Ghibli is attractive is when they are running the $500/mo fire sale leases...

I purchased a 2016 Ghibli last October. Prior to the Ghibli, I owned 05 and 08 X5 V8's and 07 and 08 328's. I now have the '16 Ghibli and '16 328. For all the bad reviews of the Ghibli, frankly they don't understand the Ghibli. Looks wise, it blows the Audi, Benz and BMW away. Performance is just fine. Love the Ferrari made engine and the stunning sound of the exhaust. Interior appointments are very nice and better than every BMW I've owned. My only two complaints is the entertainment system sucks. The sound is acceptable (not great) but the software that controls it does look like it belongs in a Dodge Dart. My only other complaint is the trunk release action. The trunk lid catapults up upon release so hard it makes a hard sound when it reaches fully open. Closing it is also horrible. Nothing luxurious at the way it closes. Having been a dual BMW house since 2007, I will replace this Ghibli with another in a few years. I truly love it!!! Living in my neighborhood of Los Angeles, BMW's are everywhere. But, the Maserati turns heads!
