why even bother to put the 3rd row???

Haha, the guy can't even sit in the 3rd row without the second row slid (which was engineered with help from GM) forward.

it can fit people up to 170 cm. In the third row.

A Guy 170 cm will be hard for a person in a Sequioa. Trust me I had one - one can fit, but it won't be comfortable.

i see people look at the Q7 and they sit in the 3rd row. Guys this is for the kids. Somepeople need the 3rd row. If you don't like it get the 5 seater

For you to be crushed to your face, the main structure(chasis) will have to fail first along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. So regardless of how much space you have under such a condition everything will get crushed.
The X5 third row is to accomodate kids I believe.

Isn't the Q7 much longer a bit wider?

That guy's head is right at the rear hatch. I'm sure he'd have to move his head forward when the rear hatch is closed to prevent from being knocked in the head. No one taller that 5FT should be back there.

Why does the X5 need a 3rd row anyway? Isn't it a driver's vehicle? Should have made this model longer, wider, and called it X7.

Like it was said many times: 3rd row seats are PROVISIONAL only, emergency seats!!! Merely for kids (up to 170cm max).

If you want to drive 7 or more adult people coast to coast in one vehicle then get a BUS!

Not only does the 3rd row suck but the second has no legroom...and these pictures are with the driver/passengers seats moved forward as you can see the exposed seat tracks underneath...same thing with the new Grand Cherokee, the truck is bigger but the inside is smaller. But ask VW why midsize SUV's need 3rd rows now, whether they're functional or not you lose about half your prospective buyers if you don't offer one.

of course the q7 is wider and longer.. as is the escalade and the excursion. collectively those cars handle like crappy trucks.. feel free to get one of them.. if you need 3rd row seating in a pinch and for kids in the best SUV out there, then this is the car for you.

The Audi Q7 is the best handling 7 passanger SUV available, handles just as well as the smaller Porsche Cayenne, don't even compare it to the SUVS that you listed, the Q7 destroyed them in handling in a recent Car&Driver comparison.

Looks nice - but packaging seems to be very close to that of the Volvo XC90 7 seater. The 3rd row seats are pretty small in that too - however overall cargo area seems bigger than in the BMW.

The XC90 is a very well designed car - big where it needs to be and small where it needs to be. Love to see a comparo of these two.

I wonder if the people at Lexus will offer a 3rd row seat in the RX. From the looks of the X5 and the MDX, there's not much room for 3rd row occupants. My advice: If you want 3rd row seating in a luxury SUV, go for the Escalade. I was very impressed.

Going to Disneyland in Anaheim from Irvine you wouldn't put grandma back there, but little bobby and sally have plenty of room.

Tiny tiny tiny, an X5 is not maid for that so they should'nt think they're clever by adding it. They make you pay a couple thousands more and u have them behind making your trunk capacity smaller.

They don't make you do anything. It's an option, as is buying one. It's you'r choice. Maybe next time BMW will call ahead for opinions. But for now, let it go.
