New Shot Of Tesla's Model 3 Interior Dash - Did You Expect More?

New photos taken of a silver Tesla Model 3 from this past weekend, and posted to the Tesla Facebook Group, provide a rare glimpse into the vehicle’s dashboard, center console and steering wheel. One might recall that we published a close-up look at the Model 3 interior last month after it was first spotted testing near Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

The latest photos gives us a clearer look at the landscape-mounted touchscreen, which resembles an off-the-shelf computer monitor that’s been bolted onto the dashboard, and two ergonomically placed cup holders with a flip-open cover that reveals storage inside the center console.

Well, we should all hope that this is just a 'mock-up' and NOT the final version!

If not, perhaps the production version will be 'richer' looking.

If SO - it should at least be cheap to manufacture which should help profitability.

(A) WHAT ABOUT CRASH TEST RESULTS?

(B) ALSO, WHAT ABOUT WINTER/COLD WEATHER TESTING AND HOT WEATHER TESTING?

It certainly seems that Tesla's road testing strategy amounts to "give the Model 3 to employees and let them drive it to and from the office".

I like the simplicity of it, think it will be better appreciated in person. There are some elements are missing by the cupholders but the whole dash is 100% complete.

A.) What makes you think this will have anything less than the best crash results for it's size? It still has a frunk to buffer head-on collisions and was designed for top safety in mind (it has to be given the self-driving component).

B.) Should be similar to the Model S, not many variables have changed that would impact this.

I guess what hurts here to see literally what a soulless car looks like, I'm rooting for teams but there's something so erry, cold, and appliance like about that interior.

What's funny is every car I've owned or gotten a ride in I could identify things I liked about the interior, things I hated about the interior, and things that grew on me about the interior as time passed which gave the car character, familiarity, and a bit of comfort.

This Tesla reminds me more of a device like my iPhone, where you understand it's purpose, capabilities, and the only thing that connects you if the familiarity of the functions....sad day in car world,

this will be the biggest debut and highest volume seller for tesla, I just hate that it didn't come with any character or soul

Agreed. A $40K car (base plus some modest options) should look more inviting inside out. I still hold out hope that the final product is more polished than this sample. Only a month or so to go.

If the final car looks like what's shown here, it's going to be OK.

This car definitely has a soul. 100% built in the US from an upstart auto manufacturer. First car that will give the masses a chance of buying a performance EV under $40k. First car to enable affordable self-driving technology. I wouldn't expect most people to get it, since this is a car straight out of 2021--but I promise you that pretty much everyone is going to start copying this type of simplistic design. iPhone vs. Blackberry all over again.

"Guess Elon's got to cut EVERY corner to compete with the VW e-Golf, Bolt, Leaf. Too bad the Volkswagen interior FANTASTIC in comparison."

How many times does a car company have to screw you before they lose your patronage? For me and many others it's once, which is while I'll never drive a VW again.

The quality control on current and past Tesla's have been absolutely atrocious. You sit in one and everything feels CHEAP. Sure, Cadillac's also feel cheap but at least they're marginally better.

Making cars in America doesn't necessarily mean build quality has to be low. Just look at all these American-built Audi's! All built like Bentley's! Tesla has a few things to learn from Audi.

I expected less, that screen bugs me, should have been integrated into the dash like the Model S.

Obviously - Tesla was thinking ahead to making a Right Hand Drive car - so made the upper portion of the Dash with nothing on it - which allows them to put the Steering Wheel (If ordered with one) on either side. And They could tilt the "screen" slightly toward the driver on either side..

Of course - the lack of anything on the Dash makes you wonder how much the things that should be there will optionally cost.?

Relax. Looks like engineers are driving and that is a panel they use to record data. Nothing that big would get approved based on safety regulations alone.

Once again the AutoSpies regulars are apoplectic over a spy photo of an unfinished interior because it is a Tesla. If this was a Mustang there'd be oohing and aahing over the futuristic look.

The single screen has all the controls on it? Sound systems and heat/air lend themselves to knobs. Some techies will be okay with this, but the general public?

If everything is on a screen, that means eyes off the road. #unsafe

Obviously everything is on that screen. The 200,000+ Tesla's delivered to date also have all controls on one screen. The UX works very well, and over-the-air updates mean it will get better over time.

The only two buttons on the S/X are to open the glove box and the hazards, that's it. Even the lock button is integrated into the screen.

You can use the steering wheel controls for audio, voice commands, making calls, adjusting temperature, and even opening the sunroof.

1. This is a test mule.
2. People that buy a Model 3 are buying it for its capabilities and cache
3. This is a budget car and not a $300k Bentley
4. Nothing is perfect, you pick your battles

The model S interior is definitely a little cumbersome as the screen requires a few clicks to do simple tasks like unlock doors and change A/C settings. I honestly anticipate these cars to be very limited in the interior. They are trying to move product and a lot of them and frankly they really need to in order to exist. People will buy these based on their range capabilities, looks, and lastly their interior quality. As far as competitive cars go, remember the fiat 500e costs more than this car and you might as well just close your eyes when you get in that thing it's so ugly in there.

You can using steering wheel controls to adjust the temperature. Locking/unlocking is one click on the upper left corner of the screen or you can also press the park button twice on the steering wheel.
