A New Sheriff In Town? Review Positions Volvo XC60 At The Top Of The Segment
Buying a compact premium SUV nowadays means deciding between multiple models which can all realistically be described as being excellent.

So then, where does that leave the all-new Volvo XC60? According to Auto Express' Steve Fowler, the Swedish brand's latest product can easily be positioned somewhere at the top of the segment.

He goes as far as to say that while the F-PACE will offer a very sporty ride, something which our own Zac Estrada concluded in his review as well, the XC60 is more comfortable, better built and has more technology than its British rival. So, 3-1 in favor of the Volvo?

Well, that video certainly didn't tell us much. Top of segment? Certainly up there from what I've heard/read so far. BAsed on the article, sounds like it has good tech, but cars should still be judged on engineering excellence, not just tech goodies (hear that, CR?).

I do think Volvo is making a mistake by pricing this right with the Q5/GLC/X3/RX. Volvo should have taken a more Acura-like approach and priced it just below those models, just like the XC90 is priced right with the MDX, though with a more modest entry-level engine.

EVERY time a new vehicle comes to a segment, the reviews place it at the top. It's the quid pro quo reviewers have with manufacturers. If you speak the truth, you don't get invited back.

Agreed. There comes a time when you wonder where these reviewers come from. For one SUV they will lambaste it for not being sporty - and then they will give high marks for an SUV that is more "comfortable" - code word for "dull" Better Built cannot really be "tested" in a few days - yes there are some areas that are obvious - but fit and finish is not all there is to better built. And as far as more technology - there is a lot of new technology that most drivers here will need to find a way to turn off.

I note that Audi and Cadillac are testing technology that responds to OUTSIDE stimulus (Ie - like speed limit signs). I predicted this would happen in many PAST posts. Once the government finds out that it can LIMIT your speed - they will require that technology on all cars. And there goes the reason for buying many higher powered sporty cars.

Best stylish SUV to come out of China, oops, I meant Sweden.

Bravo Volvo, bravo! Maybe now they have a shot at the luxury market, instead of bankruptcy 2.0.
