Looks like Audi and Infiniti are continuing to take sales from BMW.

Sedans are not selling and those companies with a weak SUV/CUV offer are in trouble.

When your line up looks 10 years old, sales are bound to suffer.

I guess there's something remarkable about those cheap BMW's coming off their 3 year old leases that's truly enticing prospective BMW owners to NOT buy new BMW models. That's very revealing and alarming in itself about BMW's current state of broken designs and sales strategy. I expect an early 5-series facelift really soon!

I'm rather surprised at the big drop in 5 series sales. I guess May incentives are simply NOT low enough. You cannot dazzle new customers with last generation's look and mediocre car tech.

Um the 5 series is up over 12 percent... At almost 3700 units, while the E-Class is at jut over 4000 - and that counts sedan, coupe convertible, and wagon variants together. Also, can you tell me how much the A6 sold this month?

Audi fan, I guess those smaller amounts of people buying re-badged VWs in increasingly small numbers gets you all excited :)

Why this site does not present the detail of the sales as with the other brands so we can see how each car is performing against the contenders?

The individual model breakdown can be found here:

BMW has already lost the U.S. and global sales title to Mercedes-Benz for the second straight year. Mercedes-Benz holds a 12,842 unit lead over BMW in the U.S. YTD and outsold BMW by 1,075 units in May.

You know BMW's U.S. business is facing very hard times when the 2-Series, 3-Series, 4-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series and 7-Series are all down YTD with only the 4-Series doing better than -13.7% on the year.

Thank You GermanNut, now I understand how far is falling BMW behind MB. 3 Series is not as successful as is use to be, 7 series less of a half of the S class sales, E class, still leading the segment, wow, MB is doing great job.

Who ever approved the i3 and i8 should be fired. Plus the boring exterior's of the 5 and 7 Series. The X7 and X3 better be a home runs.

I was recently in Munich and visited both the BMW museum and BMW Welt accross the street (the media and auto delivery center), and oh boy was I disappointed! Apart from a beautiful E9 specimen in the museum, nothing else was exciting. Seeing the delivery of the bland-looking new 5 was also a blow. Where are you BMW?

Just like every brand, new car sales aren't great, but BMW's CPO is way up. BMW will continue to sell more CPO vehicles this year than Audi will new and used combined.
I personally think the new 5 series looks great. The BMW has the best quality cameras over any brand, so the tech is not mediocre. From your smart phone, you can access your cars camera system and it alerts you if some one hits your car. It also takes a snap shot and records it in the hard drive of the vehicle. Better than any other brand.
Mercedes is doing a good job, but they still drive boring to me. Will take a drivers car over anything else.

BMW also considers the US market their 4th most important, so they really aren't too concerned.

And that kind of thinking will be what allows Toyota to swallow them up as BMW continues its downward spiral.

Mini seems to heading in the direction of Fiat. Unless gas prices make a huge leap I thing small cars, sedans etc. are going bye bye. SUV's and CUV's are it.

BMW miscalculated BIG TIME with Mini when they decided that Mini would have its own dealers.

That immediately limited the sales of Mini, but it also caused Mini to have to be a brand that sold well enough to sustain a dealership.

Putting Mini into BMW dealers would have had the effect of rationalizing Mini's offerings to the Cooper and a Club/Countryman crossover.

It would also have opened the possibility of a Triumph TR4 as a mainstream addendum built off the Z4 but with a lower, more affordable price point possibly powered by a turbo 4.
