TVR Rebirth To Begin With 200 MPH Super Coupe

The public showing will follow a series of private reveals for customers who have already placed deposits on the 200mph, front-engined V8 two-seater. For its Goodwood launch, the car will be located in the Earls Court building alongside several classic TVR models, to celebrate the marque's 70th anniversary.

Although still under wraps, we know the new car will be built very much in character with the traditional Blackpool TVRs but entirely new from the ground up. Designer Gordon Murray hosted customers who viewed the car at his HQ near Guildford, Surrey.

Cool... but honestly, who in their right mind would ever choose to drive 200MPH in a TVR.

I would be terrified that all the British engineering know-how would self-destruct somewhere between 90MPH and 120MPH. Yikes!

@mre30 Have you ever driven a TVR or gone 200mph? Any vehicle capable of 200mph is unsafe potentially. The new TVR was designed with crash safety in mind, so it will be much more secure. I've been above 150mph in a Sagaris and it was noisy and rattly, but stable.

GODSPEED to you MDarringer!

I don't have a desire to go 200MPH, but if I did, it would be in a vehicle from a company with ample capitalization, testing budgets, and development funds that would give me the confidence that its been tested and that there is something at stake for the manufacturer if there was something patently wrong with the vehicle.

Porsche, Bugatti, Mercedes, BMW, Chevy Corvette, Ford GT, all come to mind. McLaren sort of does due to their track record, but it wouldn't be my first choice to go 200MPH.

I'm biased but TVR has brushed with insolvency one too many times to overcome my lack of confidence in it.

I'm not saying TVRs are the safest out there but to say they would self destruct at 90mph is asinine.

I dont know what i am more excited about, the AMG project one or this! I cannot wait! MDarringer, since you are a TVR fanatic, can you tell me if these cars have room for really tall guys?? From what i read, Peter wheeler was like 6'6 and he built the Cerbera to accomodate his tall ass. So i am 6'8, could i fit in any of these??

I'm 6'2" and easily fit into a TVR. I obviously have not been behind the wheel of the new one. 6'8" is going to be a challenge.

TVRs have always looked amazing and if Gordon Murray, who is a legend, is involved then there's a good chance the new backers know what they're doing and can build some exciting products. But the new cars will have to overcome a grounded reputation of being glorified kit cars, hence the safety concerns etc, to really compete out there but I think there is a market if they can keep designs as interesting.

Ironically, if they overcome the kit car image too well, traditional, diehard TVR enthusiasts won't want one. It is my understanding that TVR in dialing in a lot of safety, durability, and reliability all while keeping the new model sufficiently unruly to please traditionalists. A return to the USA is planned at some point. TVR it has been said is testing the 10 speed automatic used by Ford for a variety of reasons. I'd love to be at Goodwood in the fall.
