Altima Hybrid Sets Sights on Camry

competition in the hybrid-electric-vehicle segment kicks up a notch with this year’s arrival of the Toyota Camry Hybrid and, in early 2007, a hybrid version of the successful Nissan Altima sedan.

The two ’07 models promise a spirited battle as new-car intenders, worried about volatile gasoline prices, weigh their vehicle options.

Altima Hybrids will be built at Nissan's Smyrna, TN plant. From a technology standpoint, the Camry and Altima HEVs will be closely aligned. The Altima Hybrid, in fact, will employ Toyota Motor Corp.’s well-regarded Hybrid Synergy Drive, which is used across Toyota’s hybrid lineup.

Nissan should come up with their own Hybrid Car.

altima is kinda ugly.. nissan is losing the edge they had, well except for the infiniti line which is still quite pleasing

That's a pretty oddball move from Toyota- to give Nissan hybrid tech in a car that's meant to compete directly with the Camry Hybrid?

Nissan better hype it up, because if they don't, the Camry will be eating this car for lunch.

Correction Toyota sold Nissan the first generation hybrid technology,not Hybrid Synergy Drive.So that still leave the Altima one step behind the Camry!!!

That is what I heard to when this news surfaced some time ago. However even if it does has the Synergy drive - Toyota will release the all new one soon.

Funny thing about nissan.They have this thing called trickled effect.The altima has similar lines to the infiniti's and up their interior quality to match infiniti's g35 and if you ever sat in a new m35 it is all so similar to the maxima interior wise, until the redesign for the maxima comes out in 2008-2009.But then you will have a hard time guessing if you are in a nissan or and infiniti.
