Honda Wants Next Gen "Drivers" To Become "Riders" With Asleep At The Wheel Capability

Honda Wants Next Gen

Hondas self-driving car technology will allow passengers to sleep while on the move by 2025, CEO Takahiro Hachigo has revealed.

Hachigo? set the goal of achieving level four autonomy, defined as 'mind off' driving, in a far-reaching address in Japan last week. Autonomous driving is defined by six levels, from zero to five. Under level four terms, a driver is required to be close to the controls but does not need to be observing the roads in certain circumstances, such as on motorways.

Sure, level 5 autonomous tech is coming eventually. But I'm pretty sure it'll be way before 2025 and Audi will be the first to offer that.

The only company that might beat Tesla to level 5 is Google. Level 5 will happen before the end of the decade for sure. Audi/VW seems to have their s*** most together of the traditional manufacturers and will likely be next.

This is Honda, so the AutoSpies minions will fawn over it. Had it been Tesla, they'd be predicting bankruptcy for the company no later than Monday.

Driving Hondas always cured me of my insomnia. I guess Honda was getting started early?
