Tesla To Remove Almost All Supercharger Stations From The Power Grid

Tesla has been talking about adding solar arrays and batteries to its Supercharger stations ever since announcing the fast-charging network in 2012.

But only half a dozen stations or so out of the over 800 stations ended up getting a solar array.

CEO Elon Musk said that they plan to deploy more battery and solar systems with the upcoming ‘Version 3’ of the Supercharger, but now he went a step further and claimed that “almost all Superchargers will disconnect from the electricity grid.”

If Musk is right, and he's found a practical, cost-effective and environmentally responsible way to recharge EVs without any substantial drawbacks, then this is a "Holy Shit!" moment. All the power to him in this endeavor!

In case readers don't know it, one of the factors working against dramatically scaling up EV use (e.g., 30% of all cars on the road being EVs) is that the current electrical grid and generating stations simply don't have the capacity to supply the required electricity. Practical and cost-effective decentralized power generation addresses this bugaboo.

Totally agree. Grid storage will also help with the increased demand.

When will libertards finally get it right - green energy is costly AND inefficient. Part of the plan to invigorate our economy is to INCREASE greenhouse emissions, not decrease it.

Our economy will naturally bloom once we START focusing on removing hurtles in oil and coal production. Once our energy production is stimulated, the rest of the economy will follow suit.

I find it fascinating how most of the world is rapidly moving away from fossil fuels, while the US government (and their related oil and coal industries) is arguing strongly for it.

Even the king of Saudi Arabia (WOW!) knows that the days of Saudi wealth from selling oil will run dry long before their oil supply does, and he is heavily investing in renewables to shift the country's economy away from their dependency on *selling* oil.

In light of facts like this (yeah, I know... "fake news" according to the Uber-Right), when I see a post like dpalmo's (above), it looks like someone running *into* a house fire when everyone else is running out.

@TheSteve, @dpalmo is right when he says: "...green energy is costly AND inefficient..."

You would not be morally superior because you would be driving an EV.

If EVs are so right for the Earth's "blood" why do you drive a smoker Audi?

You wouldn't want to be a hypocrite would you?

MDarringer: Your ignorance is exceeded only by your arrogance. Do your homework (oh gawd, how I wish) and you might discover:

1) My Audi Q5 does not smoke. At all. Ever. This is common for modern diesel passenger vehicles that use the urea injection system (Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF), like mine.

2) Diesel engines emit more NOx than gasoline engines do. Meanwhile, gasoline engines emit more CO2 than comparable diesels. That's just a fact. And CO2 is commonly referred to a "greenhouse gas" (yeah, I know... fake news, climate hoax, Libtards, Enviro-Nazis, yadda yadda). So driving a diesel produces LESS greenhouse gases than driving a comparable gasoline engine.

3) I routinely hypermile, just for fun. I get far better MPG than the average car/driver, and even better than some hybrids (best tank ever was ~52 MPG US, real, not "indicated"). Better MPG means less fuel burned per mile, and that means less pollution (and greenhouse gases) per mile (as compared to same vehicle driven in a way that gets lower MPG).

4) There are other factors that determine one's total impact to the environment, and may I say quite frankly, you know zip about what I do to tread more gently on this planet. Actually, less than zip.

I think this could be my last reply to your posts addressed to me. I feel like a school teacher who is trying to explain basics to an ignorant, obstinate and arrogant little grade-school child. I've reached the point where I finally roll my eyes and conclude, "Oh well, I can't talk any sense to this kid. I give up." However, I may continue to call your posts out for other readers' enjoyment.

(PS: I officially withdraw a statement I made in an earlier post, in which I wrote (paraphrased) "...I speculate MDarringer is more intelligent than the average American..." I conclude that I was mistaken in that speculation.)

Ouch! I see a Tesla Model Y in TheSteve's garage in a couple of years :)

vdiv: Check back with me regularly to see if you're right. I speculate you're not, as I have no interest in EVs at this time. I love my current vehicle.

@TheSteve I have to hand it to you, your douchebaggery is stunning. Your little atheist heart is trying so hard to be morally superior, but you just don't have it in you to make it happen.

You are also a hypocrite because you have lectured other not to attack the person, but the issue and there you went attacking the person.

You are also clearly not intelligent enough to catch on when someone pushes your trigger for sport.

But, but, but... coal ash is good for you! Will make sure we stuff it in every possible construction material, that's how much we care! ;)

Are there really people out there who believe oil and coal are the future?
