[UPDATED] BREAKING: The Grand Tour's Richard Hammond Injured In Hillclimb Crash — Airlifted To Hospital
Awful news coming to us now from Europe early this afternoon. According to reports, The Grand Tour's Richard Hammond has been involved in a car crash in Switzerland.

Participating in a hillclimb event, Hammond was piloting the Rimac Concept One.

Images and video seem to show the car traveling up an incline when it seems to have lost traction and went through the turn and over a drop off. This resulted in the Rimac flipping over and bursting into flames.

Early reports have indicated that Hammond may have lucked out as emergency personnel were quick to respond. As of now we're seeing that his injuries are being characterized as serious and that he's been airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

As this is a fluid situation, we'll update this story as needed.

Today's crash comes merely months after an incident where Hammond crashed his motorcycle while filming a segment for Amazon's The Grand Tour. He sustained a head injury in that accident. Prior to that was the major crash Hammond sustained while filming an episode of Top Gear where he suffered significant trauma to the head.

The Agents at AutoSpies hope this cat has nine lives.

[EDIT]

The Grand Tour has tweeted out that while Hammond did have a serious crash his injuries are NOT serious. See the statement here:

Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been airlifted to hospital after a horror crash in Switzerland, according to reports.

The 47-year-old, who sustained brain injuries after a 288mph rocket car accident in 2006, is being treated in hospital after flipping a £2million supercar which then burst into flames as he filmed his new Amazon show The Grand Tour.

Pictures from the scene showed a car in flames alongside a road in St. Gallen before the blaze was extinguished by firefighters...

Horrific. I hope he pulls through this and then dials back on his ballsy behavior. Reports seem to indicate that he got instant medical attention and that he is in good hands.

I guess the instant torque got away from him. After surviving the previous crash I would stick to closed circuit / track only testing.

Glad no one was killed. At the end of the day it's just a car.

Lots of speculation about what happened, it will be interesting to see what Hammond says.

Though driver error can easily be the cause, looking at a supercar from a Croatian car company is where I'd start. The last supercar from that general neck of the woods was the Yugo GV.

No wonder, Rimac Concept One does not have a Nurburgring lap time compared to the NIO EP9. The Rimac Concept One just simply sucks hairy monkey gonads. Back to the drawing board, Rimac!
