Congress Introduces Bill To Require Automakers To Sense If Passengers Are Left Behind In A Car
According to Click 2 Houston, since 1990, over 800 children have been killed in the U.S. after being left in hot cars. Now, various members of the United States Congress are pushing forward to introduce legislation aimed at putting an end to hot car deaths.

Named the Helping Overcome Trauma for Children Alone in Rear Seats (HOT CARS) Act of 2017, the bill would require carmakers fit new vehicles with technology that alerts the driver if there are still passengers sitting in the rear after the car has been turned off.

Honest to God I have no idea how a parent can accidentally leave a kid behind in the car. Now that it's legal in California to break windows if you think a pet in in danger, I will be breaking windows this summer.

Tesla already has a software solution for this, you can set a minimum and maximum temperature that will always be kept at all times when the doors are closed. That might be the simplest and least expensive solution to implement but it only works for EVs.

It's just a matter of software. A sensor could start an ICE vehicle and crank the air conditioning, but that's beside the point. The point is child abuse is going on with cell phone addicts forgetting they had sex and cranked out the kid in the back seat.

BS. More tech to compensate for bad humans. When will it stop. What if I don't have kids? Do I still have to pay the extra money for this tech that I don't need? And none of this, "well you never know if you'll be driving a kid" nonsense. I haven't had a child or car seat in my car in 20 years. And if I did, it wouldn't be my kid, which means that something was happening out of the norm and I would very likely not forget them in the backseat.

Dear govt. Just stop.

More Nanny State BS. Next thing you know it will be illegal to duct tape them and lock them in the closet when you don't have a babysitter...

I'm for giving parents the death penalty if they forget a kid in the car and the kid dies.

More idiotic legislation. It seems like more children who die in hot cars is because, sadly, the parents do it on purpose. I'm not for government involvement but we have a whole lot of parents that should not be parents at all. Maybe they should keep some people from procreating.
