Toyota Considering Acquisitions And Possible Merger To Maintain Technical Pace
Toyota may consider mergers or acquisitions to procure new automotive technologies, including self-driving technologies, the company's president, Akio Toyoda, said, adding that the automaker had to compete more aggressively against its rivals.

At an annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday Toyoda said the automaker, which took longer to warm to self-driving cars and electric vehicles than its rivals, would be more aggressive in expanding in these areas, conceding he may have focused too much on preserving the status quo at the firm until now.

If Toyota can come up with $100B for an offer, I'd talk - but I doubt Musk will.

@HenryN Tesla is an emperor-new-clothes swindle and Musk did it to create hype so as to sell a nothing for something. Tesla is easily acquirable because Musk's game plan is to sell it.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Pay $65 billion for the name? They could buy GM, Ford or BMW for less.

Panasonic would be a good takeover for Toyota. This would give them access to top notch battery technology in house.

How about if Toyota considers acquisitions and possible merger to start putting out a product that isn't a fu*king eyesore? Everyone on the outside of their cars will thank them. Ditto for their "looks like I just got punched in the face/ass" Lexus brand.

On a more serious note, Toyota should gain quite a bit of technology in buying BlackBerry - yes the company that used to make phones but recently switched its focus to software for automobiles and autonomous driving. BlackBerry can be had at a deep discount now.
