Republicans Don't Want States To Regulate Self Driving Vehicles, But Don't Have A Way To Do It Nationally Either
California and other states would be barred from setting their own rules governing design and testing of self-driving cars, while federal regulators would be blocked from demanding pre-market approval for autonomous vehicle technology, according to a U.S. House Republican proposal reviewed by Reuters on Thursday.

The draft legislation, while far from becoming law, still represents a victory for General Motors, Google affiliate Waymo, Tesla Inc. and other automakers and technology companies seeking to persuade Congress and the Trump administration to pre-empt rules under consideration in California, New York and other states that could limit deployment of self-driving vehicles.

The republicans have - over the last few years - campaigned for removing federal bureaucracy and returning power to the individual states. EXCEPT of course - when they think they should be in charge.

The fact is - local driving regulation have ALWAYS been set by local entities - and it is in trusting the local entities that they trust to set abortion/birthcontrol policies(among others) - because they know what the local conditions are.

So - eventually all the local states will have to bend to the need for autonomous vehicles - and at most - the Federal Government should only be in the business of providing some guidelines on how these regulation should be - maybe minimum standards. Frankly - I would object to laws that required a state accept something that it know will be problematical. The Federal government is well known to make requirements that seem logical - but in the end require states to spend many billions of dollars to comply with and requiring increasing state bureaucracy.

Poor those Republi_CAN'Ts - even with the majority in Congress and a ConMan-in-Chief the White House, they can't do diddly squat. Why don't they just quit and let the snowflakes take over so they can continue to blame someone else ?

Yes Hussein the Muslim "community organizer" and racial divider President LIED about being a foreign student from Indonesia to get student financial aid. That is FRAUD period. He also lied regularly about many other things but funny how the lefty asshole media never called him out on his BS otherwise they would have been called "racist" -how convenient.

Trump is a braggadocios douche with verbal diarrhea but he does have some good ideas and is the POTUS and deserves a chance to drain the swamp if it can be done. Half of his own party is corrupt and needs to go so it is a uphill battle to say the least.

Be careful about throwing stones in a glass house because Hussein was the real con man and still is but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story...
