With Mostly American Support, Subaru Claims Global All-Wheel-Drive Sales Supremacy, Stomps On Quattro
No auto brand in the world sells more all-wheel-drive vehicles than Subaru, says Subaru.

Autocar is reporting figures from Subaru UK that say 15 percent of the global market for all-wheel-drive vehicles is scooped up by the Subaru brand.

In Subaru’s fiscal year from April 2015 to April 2016, the automaker finished with nearly 1 million sales of all-wheel drive vehicles — 245,382 more than the next-highest-volume all-wheel-drive provider: Audi.

Indeed. Subaru owners ignore oil puddles in the driveway because the Super Beetle engines leak and drink like no other. They also ignore valvetrain clatter that manifests fairly early. They are terrible cars with a rabid following who refuses to see them as they are.

The title is inflammatory clickbait with the "stomps" comment. Subaru is an economy car company that sells only AWD vehicles. Audi is a premium to luxury company (read "much more expensive products") that sells vehicles equipped with AWD and without.

As much as Audi's AWD implementation (called "Quattro", but remember there are various types of Audi AWD, all with the Quattro name) is legendary and really good, (I drive an Audi Q5 AWD), I am more favorably impressed with Subaru's all-mechanical, simpler, less expensive, yet outstandingly good AWD. So yeah, credit where credit is due. Nicely done, Subaru!

Back in 2000 I almost bought an Outback. Green/Tan. Very outdoorsy for someone who races MTB, hikes, ski's and has a dog. I never got one as they are really not suitable if your dog is a bit bigger (80lbs-100lbs) and needs a crate to travel (goes banana's without it) to and from the forest. I will wait and see what the new large SUV does for the brand.
