DRIVEN + VIDEO: Which Of The "Daily Driver" Exotics Is King In The WET? Acura NSX vs. Audi R8 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo

DRIVEN + VIDEO: Which Of The
In the world of supercars, I think it's safe to say that there are at least two ways to slice and dice the segment. One would consist of supercars that are actually usable for daily driving. The other would be supercars that really serve as toys.

Top Gear's Chris Harris decided to do something interesting with three picks of the former contingent. He took them out on a savage, rainy day to see just who is simply the king of the castle.

So, who will it be? Watch and ye shall find.

WHICH would YOU want in your garage and WHY? Let us know in the comments below.

The Honda NSX, Audi R8 V10 Plus and Porsche 911 Turbo are all supremely powerful, complicated supercars with four-wheel-drive. But how do these all-weather supercars fare in, well, literally all of the weather? Chris Harris finds out.

I cannot imagine using any Porsche rear engine supercar as a daily driver. In fact - I cannot really imagine using any super sports car as a daily driver - it would just be too much of a waste to me - since one could not use the performance in daily driving here in the NY area. And for me - it would be too much temptation. And once I got there - it would also be too much temptation for thieves as well. There are a lot of cars - capable of doing well beyond the speed limit - that are not supercars - that would be more suited to the task.

Can you imagine daily driving one of these on a rainy day (or a sunny day) at rush hour on the Cross Bronx Expressway? If you can afford one of these, you can certainly afford a beater.

The more I see supercare videos and the high price of these cars, the more I realize just how much of a bargain a 4LT Corvette Stingray really is. And yes you can daily a new C7 Corvette. I see it all the time where I live. Beautiful white model with the traditional red extended leather interior just outside the hockey shop the other day. Sweet!

I don't doubt the C7 is a wonderful car. I had a C6 first edition, but after 3 years with it I found many flaws that was hard to live with long term - little things like mysterious rattles and squeaks but mainly the harsh ride and ergonomics. Switching over to the Porsche Turbo S several years later, I found it a totally different animal and totally worth the price of admission. I don't drive like the guy in the video, but I feel very confident with it in the rain (albeit very rarely in California). I am not fond of its demur sound at low rpm but over 3000, it's a beast.

Since one cannot use most cars to its full potential anyway, it's up to the individual to find a way to entertain himself. For me, there's a stretch of country road near my home about 2 miles long with many curves and very little traffic. It's a 5 minutes detour from the route home. It's where I find peace with the machine after an arduous commute - even only for a few minutes.

Not into the Acura Fiero.
Not into the badge engineered Audi.
I'm not a fan of the 911, but ironically it's the most "normal car" like all while being a supercar.

Rainy day? That's what our Subaru is for. The Turbo S and 718S stay dry.

But then you have to be seen driving a Craparoo.

Well, clearly the weakest link here is the hybrid, quasi-green, quasi-athletic dull machine that they called the new NSX. Had they made it 5 years earlier, it would have been revolutionary and a success, or if they simply made one with turbo V8, it would have been FAR more entertaining to own.

That leaves the venerable 911 or amazing R8. Choose either one and you can't go wrong. At the end of the day, VW's pockets are only getting fuller.
