Lately, I’ve taken you back in time when it’s my turn to offer up a Question of the Day. Today is no exception, as we’re going to discuss the past and the future at the same time. Now, while your head is spinning and you reach for a VHS copy of Back to the Future, allow me to explain.

We’re going to discuss the car brand you’d like to resurrect, and the models it would offer today. Sound like fun?

Automakers come and go through the years, and there’s usually a glaring reason for their demise. Right now you’re thinking of the list of brands taken by the Recession of 2008, aka the General Motors fire sale and Ford Clearance Event. Saab, Hummer, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Mercury, Plymouth, Mitsubishi and I’ll stop there.

Duesenberg - The real AMERICAN Standard for the world

Back then - they raced the big cars - but today I could see A line of Ultra High End Sedans, and Limos - to stomp on Rolls and Bentley

PLUS

A line of Supreme sports cars - to roll over Aston Martin - and Ferrari - and Lambo - and even over Bugatti.

Imagine an advanced set of 12 and 16 cylinder Multi-adjustable valve twin turbo engines - under a LONG LONG hood.

And for Matt - they could resurrect the TVR marque as a line of Ultra Open sports coupes too.

I kind of miss Vector's quirky designs although I have never actually seen one in person and maybe part of the reason they are toast today.

The SAAB of the 900 and 9000 era (before it was sold to GM).

The SAAB 9000 was one of the most revolutionary cars of the 1980's from a performance and space utilization standpoint. It was also a really great drive!

Also, what would have happened if DeLorean had happened to survive and thrive (relatively speaking) enough to make a second or third vehicle (and if JZDeL did not need to resort to drug dealing to get working capital)? What cars would have been next?

Agree, drove a 9000 recently in Europe with over 320,000 km on the clock. The car floored me.

Crazy, but I kinda wish Hummer & Cunningham was still around.

Hummer was the brand everybody just wanted to hate, but still you had appreciate how GM took the brand from obscure military tool to outlandish street rumbler. Its platform was closely related to the highly regarded luxury Escalade & you just knew the driver was headed to the gas station during their daily commute. It have been interesting to see what level or combination of drivetrains the H2 & H3 would use today in order to be relevant in the sea of all the new competition.

Cunningham was this old-skool luxury marquee GM held onto i guess. The last Cunningham concept I remember was a swoopy/slick 2-dr sports car using a Corvette for the base platform & exterior. I think Cunningham could have been GM's answer to RollsRoyce & Bentley with just a handful of ultra-luxury offerings.
