Audi A8 Will Detect Bumps And Adjust The Suspension Accordingly
It’s a new day, so it comes as no surprise Audi has another A8 preview ahead of the plush sedan’s premiere set for July 11 in Barcelona. This time around, we get to find out the brand’s range topper will feature active suspension capable of automatically adjusting ahead of hitting a bump in the road.

How is that possible? A front-mounted camera will be in charge of scanning the road up ahead 18 times per second and then send the gathered information to the suspension, which in turn will pre-set itself to ensure a silky smooth ride.

Wow, so Audi is catching up to where GM was more than a decade ago.

The S-Class and 7-Series do this already. Good on Audi for keeping up.

That's only true of older/lesser BMWs.

The current 7-Series has a stereo camera mounted behind the rearview mirror to actively adjust the suspension based on road conditions. It's called Road Preview and is part of the Active Comfort Drive system, which is available with the Autobahn Package.

That's probably true. The S-Class and 7-Series can adjust their dampers in exactly the right amount and at exactly the right time to allow the suspension to compress upwards the exact height of a given bump or road undulation to completely absorb it, so as to have minimal impact transfer in to the cabin.

The A8 is the next evolution in sophistication of these types of systems. I'm excited to see whether it will be able to actually lift a wheel to avoid a pothole or bump. That was a misconception about the capabilities of the S-Class's system when it first debuted.

I saw an Audi A8 on the road yesterday, and some things occurred to me:
1) I hardly ever see them
2) It didn't look like a luxury car-maker's top end
3) I don't think of them at all. I wonder if this is a widespread sentiment?

The A8 (dull), XJ (hatchback looking), and Quattroporte (Chrysler 300) are pointless and irrelevant in the segment. The LS is poised to give the 7 Series some headaches. Mercedes is fine.

The irony is that the Continental embodies exactly what the A8 needed to be but isn't.

It's so funny seeing Autospies hype the least advanced technology of the upcoming Audi A8. For those that follow closely, it is well known Audi's A8 will be the world's first Level III autonomous driving vehicle. The car will be able to handle all tasks at speeds up to 37 mph. Furthermore, the A8 will have the most advanced self-parking feature of any car on the market that is easiest to use.

The A8 will advance some technologies already available by competitors and debut groundbreaking autonomous capabilities.

When the model is officially unveiled on July 11th, the world will see Audi's technological capabilities on full display as well as its new design direction. The A8 will truly mark a new era for Audi.

Maybe they should of just skipped the A8 in the American market and make a Q9, at least it would have a chance at selling. I'm sure if they as VW they could base it on the Atlas or something.
