Tesla Scaling Out Its Service Centers + Service Team As Model 3 Prepares To Ship

Tesla announced Tuesday that it will significantly expand the number of service centers and technicians as it prepares for the rollout of the Model 3 sedan, its most affordable electric car yet.

The automaker said it plans to increase its service capacity worldwide threefold by adding 100 service centers, where owners can take their vehicles; 350-plus new mobile units (with technicians) that can go to car owners; and 1,400 Tesla technicians.

In the near future, Tesla says owners will be able to schedule a service appointment right from their car.

Not to be pessimistic, but if the Model 3 launch is anything like the Model X launch - hopefully Tesla has hired (as is now training) a small army of service techs to fix the issues that arise from seemingly rushing the Model 3 to market with what appears to be minimal testing!

I know we all have very short memories (especially in this time of Trump accelerated news!) but hark back to two years ago to the first year of Model X sales when the first year cars were basically flatbedded around being repaired.

I have two friends with Model X and once winter came, the falcon doors froze shut because water got into the mechanisms, freezing up and causing the sensors to keep the doors open. He called Tesla and they told him to find a heated garage to thaw it out so the doors to close. That one took about a month and a half to fix (it was spring by then).

If I was "Enterprise Rental Car" - I would be posting banner ad's on any articles or media postings with the key word "Tesla". They are likely going to be busy!

Tesla switched to Hertz for overflow loaners.

Keep in mind that the Model 3 is a very simple car relative to the Model X.

You know what? The power plant is in fact simpler than that of a Cub Cadet, it has one moving part. It's what makes it brilliant.

The Model X is the most complex consumer EV ever built while the Model 3 is one of the simplest. There may stull be issues, but they should be nothing like the Model X. For example it took 6 months for a flawless X to come off the line and I'm pretty sure they already hit that target with the latest release candidates (of which they already made over 300).

For 6 months the Model X came off the line with some sort of flaw that required it to go back through the production line to be fixed. It wasn't delivered to consumers with the flaws in place. That being said, there were all sorts of issues that were not found during QC. The launch was a disaster, but at least it provided a learning experience for what not to do.
