Mercedes Accused Of Selling Over 1,000,000 Vehicles That Fail Emissions
Daimler AG has been accused of selling over a million cars with excessive emissions in Europe and the U.S., Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper said on Wednesday, citing a search warrant issued by a Stuttgart court.

Two months ago Stuttgart prosecutors searched Daimler sites in Germany following allegations of false advertising and the possible wrongful manipulation of exhaust gas treatment systems in diesel cars.

The Stuttgart local court's search warrant triggered the searches on May 23, Sueddeutsche Zeitung said.

Just let me know when I can pick up my $20,000 settlement check and generous trade-in allowance on my GL350 Diesel. I have my eye on a new S560.

To translate (from wikipedia) - The Mercedes-Benz OM642 engine is a 3.0-liter, 72° 24-valve, aluminium/aluminium block and heads diesel V6 engine and the OM651 is a family of inline-four cylinder Diesel automobile engines introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2008.

I have to say that I might just pick up a "new" 2015 Porsche Cayenne diesel for 50% off sticker when they are all released for sale in a couple of months. Those will be the deals of the century.

I wouldn't be surprised if similar defeat devices were employed on other high-performance German engines - Audi/Bentley TT V8 and W12's; BMW TT V12, V8, and I6's; MB TT V12 and V8. I find it hard to believe that so much fuel can go through those motors to produce so much power and performance in such a fine manner, with such a minimal emissions penalty.

Oh, by the way, FCA/Jeep is likely in here too and perhaps BMW.

Thoughts?

Time for Mercedes-Benz to face the wrath of regulators for its deception. All this time people were so naive to think only Volkswagen Auto Group could come up with such a deceptive scheme.

Weren't they already investigated for this at the same time the VW Group was being uncovered?

The German Auto manufacturers (and likely other euro manufacturers) in collusion with Bosch have bamboozled the whole world for years with their "clean diesel" technology. The governments of many European countries, especially Germany, had some knowledge of this but looked the other way. Now that the EU has taken on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions as their main priority, they will all of a sudden discover that all these car companies were doing the same thing and force them into developing electric vehicles.

Actually the diesels are better for climate than gas has they emit less CO2 per mile driven. Hence the European governments encouraging diesels to lessen global warming. The gotcha is diesel NOx emissions which cause smog. That's what the current furor is all about. The Euro laws left leeway for manufacturers to emit more more NOx under certain conditions to save excess wear on the engines. VW decided everything outside of the lab certification test would justify their dirty engines for longevity. Weather the others who used BlueDef systems did that is still up in the air.

This could get really expensive. If true shame on you Mercedes. Even so I'm not liking politicians all over the world drawing down huge fines to feed their self serving spending habits or make up for their own past sins. Sometimes it feels like the end is near with so little regard for both integrity and respect for doing the right thing in the world. Is there anyone, any company, any politician or any government that can be trusted anymore without question? Doesn't seem so.

VW, GM, RAM and now Mercedes. Is there no honesty and integrity in the world of automomotive industry?

Frankly, I don't give a damn. They can pry my diesel from my cold, dead hands. You can't convince me that anything modern will get me remotely to the same fuel economy, reliability and power than my ML 350 Bluetec Diesel.

If you want to complain and collect money just for free ride purposes, be my guest. I'm keeping my diesel. I couldn't care less about emissions cheating, etc.
