DRIVEN + VIDEO: So, What Made The ORIGINAL Acura NSX SO Great?
I think I am going to be writing this until the day Harry Metcalfe or I die: Metcalfe is one of the very best presenters creating automotive content today.

Incredibly entertaining and full of automotive knowledge, frankly, not many can hold a candle to him.

One of the many reasons I like his reviews is because he has years of experience, unlike many of the folks pervading the YouTube scene today. Also unlike many of the automotive community, he actually owns vehicles. He has skin in the game and understands the ownership experience.

So, when I saw his latest two clips, I knew I had to share them with you.

In his first video, he reviews the original, first-gen Acura NSX. Considering he owns the gold car he drives, you can bet he has some perspectives on what makes it a unique vehicle to own. That said, I won't steal Metcalfe's thunder. Scope out the clip, below.

Launched in 1990, the original NSX was a massive technology step for Honda. Discover why here. The next video will be a review of the new NSX..

The biggest thing the NSX has always had going for it was more hype than the car delivered.

The original? The all-new NSX? Both?

Both. Simply stated in both cases there were cars that performed as well for less and cars that perform much better for the same price. The price of the NSX has always been about 40% too high for a Honda. The new one makes good numbers, but for the money a 911 is a better choice.

In many respects the original NSX is like the Tesla Model S - it changed the game for the automakers while creating polarizing view points. Regardless of your opinion, the NSX did change the sports car landscape - it's been well documented over the years. I'm not sure how much it affected Porsche but the 911 Turbo certainly did not evolve all by itself to become a near supercar it is today.

I didn't have a chance to drive the original NSX but knew someone who had both it and a 911 Turbo circa early '90s. He swore the NSX was much easier to live with. I did drive a Turbo of that time and a late model Turbo S and can see the huge improvement Porsche made. The NSX did raise the bar on nimble handling and the ease to drive fast.

The NSX was a mid-engined "Accord", so of course the Acura Fiero was easier to live with than a 911.
