Patent Drawings Reveal That Acura Is Thinking Of A Baby NSX - Who Should Worry?
The release of the Acura NSX has proven that Honda has a tendency to take in requests for model revivals and churn out something that only vaguely resembles the original. After all, the automaker is sticking with its resolve to over-engineer its cars no matter how expensive or different the result is, and Auto Guide has just uncovered its ploy to filter pleas for a scaled down NSX through this design philosophy. Uncovered July 17th, these patent images filed with he European Union Intellectual Property Office depict what could be the “baby NSX."

+1. The NSX II has received mostly positive reviews, but so far, that hasn't translated into meaningful NSX sales, or a meaningful increase of other Acura products. This means the NSX has not yet fulfilled the role of a Halo Car.

If a "Baby NSX" is made and it's priced right, that's a different story. If the NSX II was about the same price as a 'Vette, it would have made a much bigger impact all around.

If the NSX had targeted the Corvette and was priced like a Corvette, it would have done wonders for the brand. No one with $160K in their pocket wants an Acura badge on the hood. For a halo car to work, it has to be just slightly more expensive than the manufacturer's offering so as it be aspirational. The NSX is 3X the price of the RLX. At 120% of the price of an RLX, the NSX would have sold like lightning. For $160K, a Porsche 911 is a stunningly better car as is the Corvette Z06 for HALF the price.

The new NSX has gotten great reviews, so I would bet that a smaller version of it would also come with positive reviews. As for car-makers who should worry, this is a tough one as many buyers in the premium market do not objectively look at what they are getting with a new car and are instead more focused on status and the perception they feel in owning certain brands.

This doesn't look much smaller than the current NSX and not sure a baby NSX is what Acura needs right now. They need to focus on their flagship, a TLX coupe, a smaller CUV, replacing the ILX, and performance versions of all of the above. Maybe even a larger 3-row SUV for buyers to have a step-up from the MDX.

Acura is in deep caca right now. The TLX is dull and image free. The RLX crapped all over Acura's reputation because just looking at it you can see that it's an Accord with some wheelbase grafted in and just enough styling differentiation so that it does not look 100% like an Accord, but at a quick glance you can easily think it's an Accord.

Bring back the Legend (replace TLX and RLX) and the Integra (replace ILX). Acura gave us a brilliant show car, but NONE of that style has made it to dealers.

Most likely an S2000 replacement.

I saw an S2000 on the road today. Looking good for a 17yr old car.

Was it all riced out, cambered, and with the trash can exhaust?

Should be production ready by 2027.
