SPIED + VIDEO: FIRST Real Look At The All-new Tesla Model 3 — Rumored Serial 003
We've been aware that Tesla Model 3s have been rolling off the production line now. From what we've been told, the first batch of vehicles are being handed over to employees of the electric vehicle automaker.

And, it looks like this is the case.

That's because Tesla's SVP of Engineering, Doug Field, was recently nabbed on camera hopping into a Model 3 at one of Tesla's facilities. I'd guess it's the company's headquarters in Palo Alto.

This is the first footage I've seen of the all-new PRODUCTION-spec Model 3. This is a BIG deal!

Nothing is camouflaged and everything is there for you to see. The outside certainly evokes a Model S look and the interior is the definition of minimalist.

Hopefully we'll learn more about the car when the first 30 customers take delivery at the end of this month.

Doug Field

Sr. VP Engineering at Tesla Motors

Not quite sure what is awful about it the video. It revealed two things, power-seats are going to be standard (likely memory seats tied to a profile like the S/X), and the keys are going to be NFC cards like a hotel key.

The interior looks Third World crude.

Come on now, it's a $40k car and power seats are overrated, just add weight, complexity and are slow to adjust.

$35k car, $25k with the rebates for most through mid-2018

I'd like to see it from the driver perspective. Certainly the center screen and apparent lack of a single other button or control of any kind is a bit jarring -

It could be a good thing!

There are buttons, there are stalks, and there are pedals. So to turn the car on one just presses the brake pedal, no need for a button. Accessory power comes on as you enter the car, no need for a button. Headlights are automatic, no need for a button (there are soft button on the screen).

Buttons are overrated, just give in to Elon, he will take care of you ;)

Perhaps it's 100% voice command: "Car, crank the A/C please."

It does have the scroll wheels on the steering wheel that are programmable so you can set one to change the temperature for example. You also have the touch screen for secondary and infotainment functions.

Good or bad - it is going to have a REALLY hard time living up to all of the hype.

I'm not optmistic - storm clouds ahead.

If the interior does in fact look close to what is shown above, I think it will be a big problem for Tesla to overcome. Audi and Mercedes-Benz both offer much higher quality interiors with both a modern (Audi) and traditional (Mercedes-Benz) interpretation of luxury.

The poor interior quality will become a massive issue for Tesla once Audi and Mercedes-Benz start offering their own all-electric vehicles in 2018.

Oh, come on! Memory is playing tricks on you, those things were awful, everything broke off. Besides if you love plastic heaven then get a Bolt EV. :)
